I am considering appealing to a UC. I was looking over my application. I am wondering what the following means?
-What does “has international experience” mean? It’s under my 7th and 8th grade Spanish classes
-My AP classes have both an (AP) and an (HP) listed on my high school transcripts which mean “honors prep”, but that is not listed on my UC application. Is it important to correct that or is it the same as AP?
-On My college level coursework under honors status it says CL (College level?) on two of the classes, but the third class says NH. Is that a mistake?
-Does “support program” mean IEP or 504 etc.?
Thank you!
Did you attend a CA high school?
If so, you can look up your high school courses on the A-G list to see how they should be classified (and if the UC app was correct): University of California A-G Course List
Thank you, yes I attended a Ca. high school, and on that website you mentioned it says * European History 1,2 AP / EUHIST 1,2 AP(HP), but on the UC application the (HP) is not there. Is that worth mentioning?
If a course at your high school was UC Honors designated, but the UC app doesn’t reflect that, it could have affected your UC weighted GPA, which could have affected how your app was evaluated. That would be something to bring up if you are making an appeal.
As for your other questions,
- I believe “has international experience” is asking whether you attended a school in another country. There’s a question on the UC app about that.
- I think “support program” would refer to where you “indicate if you’re interested in the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), which provides support services when you’re at UC.” You don’t need to disclose on the UC app whether you had an IEP or 504 at your high school.
Thanks, you are so helpful. So just to clarify, if my high school transcripts say EUHIST 1,2 AP(HP) and the UC application EUHIST 1,2 AP and no (HP), there may have been a mistake in my GPA.
What exactly does the UC application say? Does it show the course as AP, or NH, in the “Hnrs” column?
Only one honors level will show up in the UC application. It won’t show both AP and HL in that column. For an AP course, it would just show AP even if your high school transcript shows “AP(HP)” and all AP courses would already be calculated into your GPA with the UC Honors weighting.
For example, this is how AP Chemistry would show up in the UC app.
Yes, that was what it looks like, no sign of (HP), but I guess that would not add any gpa points if it said both. Is it worth mentioning in an appeal that the (HP) was omitted or is that just understood. You’re invaluable! Thank you!
For which UCs?
And what major?
No, because AP gives the same weighting on the UC application.
I don’t know about the “CL” but I have the feeling that @Gumbymom might be coming here to help you, too.
The Euro History class can only be Honors Level (HP) or AP or Regular. If reported as AP, then HP will not matter and it is not a mistake.
Regarding the CL, is it possible the Marketing class is not UC transferable so it would not be considered CL? Did you check assist.org to see if the class is UC transferable?
Regarding the seminar program, I am not familiar with that program so what exactly do you do in the program that is different from the other HS students?
