So I have narrowed down my college list to the University of Cincinnati and Purdue University. I live in Cincinnati, Ohio currently and my mom would be paying for the full cost; however she would only be able to pay for about 50% and I would have to pay the other 50% (I expect to pay 10k and take out 10k in loans. Purdue seems like the better general fit for me, their research facilities are very impressive and the internship opportunities seem abundant. Though UC also is connected to UC Health and Cincinnati Children’s hospital ( ranked #1 for pediatrics in the country). I would love for anyone with either college to shed some light on what I should consider.
Can you please clarify?
If you go to Cincinnati your parent will pay the full cost?
And if you go to Purdue your parent will pay 50%, and you expect to pay the remaining 50%? Is that correct?
What is your major?
If Cincy is $20K and you can’t borrow $10K (not allowed - only $27K over four years broken out in smaller amounts), then how will you afford the nearly $40K of Purdue (which your share would be $30K).
So if I’m reading this right, you cannot afford either.
You can get internships from any school in America - so that would not be a concern for me.

But based on what you wrote (if I’m reading it correctly) - either mom is taking out some loans, you live him and go to UC to save money, or start at a community college.
I assume the UC figure of $20K includes merit aid because tuition is less, but with housing is more.

UC is 20k with my scholarship and Purdue is 43k
This goes back to you cannot afford either.
So what’s your plan?
At least Cincy is saving you $23K per year (nearly $100K) - but - you still need to fund Cincy. How?
So if it’s these two your choice is made - but I still don’t see how you fund it given what you wrote.
What can you afford?
I can afford 20k a year, which is the cost of UC. However I made 10k last summer which leads me to believe I’d be able to pay the extra 20k for Purdue
If you can afford $20k/year and UC is affordable then UC sounds like the best answer. You cannot count on making $10-$20k every summer and costs will only go up.
Go with U Cincinnati- you can’t count on making 10k every year and anyway that doesn’t close the gap to 43k. You likely have honors and access to co-ops if you wish (they pioneered the approach) and you won’t make 80k more with a job found after Purdue.
