Did anyone who sent in mid year grades get denied yet?
@Mcjc626 My daughter applied early November OOS … got the email about midyear grades and was told she’d hear by the 15th of March. Midyear grades were
3 A’s 1B. Delaware was her first choice but she’s gotten interested in a school where she’s accepted. Still waiting…
People were denied already at my school. I think if they ask you for midterm grades and their decent your in but your waiting. Top them midterm graders are on the fence. No new application are coming in they’re shuffling students around to manage space. That’s what Penn State does, the ship you off to a branch campus and give you a 2 + 2 program and guarantee you in UP later. I don’t think Delaware has branch campus of any size. If you don’t make the cut for the midterm grades they are looking to place you in second major choice and waiting to the last minute.
I know one thing the people answering the phone are not the decision makers by any means. The just confirm what’s on your portal.
My son’s midyear grades were sent on 2/21. The HS counselor received a confirmation email from an admissions counselor on 3/5 that they received the midyear grades. UD is my son’s top choice. I’m not holding out on decision by 3/15 as promised but it would be nice to have a decision by Friday.
My daughter submitted her mid year grades on 2/8. I called today and was told they are trying to get decisions out by this weekend or by next weekend (3/24) at the latest. She is trying to get in for Criminal Justice. She is tired of waiting, she wants to know to make a decision. Some of her friends have gotten rejections already from UDel. We don’t know what to make of this long wait. I think prolonging the wait by giving her a waitlist would be difficult to take.
Has anyone’s major disappeared today?
Daughter sent early action- everything in and completed by 11/1. Applied Fashion Merch. Monday feb 26th she received a wait list letter.Had to go on portal and declare to be put on wait list. UDEL replied that their next contact will come via email and could be as late as june 1st. obviously that means we have to put down a deposit by May 1st to second choice if Udel is still going to be an option 1 (which doesn’t seem like there is much of a chance off wait list) She Has since set two emails to admissions explaining why she has chosen UDEl as number 1 choice and even asked for interview–there have been no replies. Personally I wouldn’t give this place a second look-but I’m not her. When your accepted to 6 other schools (for 8 weeks or longer) of same caliber, who are offering you money I get confused by the want and need to go to a place who can’t seem to get out of their own way with the just the admission process. That seems like a bad sign to me. But what do us parents know? As someone who works with HS kids everyday I would say its not so much where you land, its what you do with it when you land there–stop sweating UDEL–that’s really my message, now if only I can get my daughter to listen to me.
I couldn’t agree more with nuch89. Why would you ever want to attend an institution that can’t get it together and is dangling the carrot over these kids heads?
I have to agree with you too nuch89. My son was admitted on feb 23 but undeclared not his choice. His major he had on his application was statistics. It is a bit unsettling that they notified him for his mid year grades but could not send a update that they were not able to place him in his choice if major and of there was a 2nd one he would like to choose. Howeveron his portal there is that option to request change and he did that Feb 24. You can guess right we are waiting for a response back. My son does have another school of choice but he would like to know the decision that UD comes back with on the major of HIS choice. I’m only his mom and I am trying to guide in the right direction. but Unfourtantly, this is there choice and as the parent im trying REAL hard to respect that. I hope he will not wait to long that he will not be able to go to student admitted day on the other college choice. I can not keep repeating over and over. This UD process has been very dissapointing. I keep thinking this is not Princeton University he’s trying to go to. If the process has been this unorganized what will happen when they go there and need assistance ect… Bad vibe. I guess thats what happens when they try to get bigger to get more oos students for the $$$$$$$. Venting done. Have a good night all. Good luck to those still waiting for a acceptance.
@chestnut804 I feel this way about Temple…my son applied EA, has a GPA within their middle 50%, 19 honors classes, an SAT score 300 points above their average and yet they wanted to see mid-year grades and won’t have a decision for a few more weeks. Not to mention he attends the most rigorous public magnet school in Philly of which they are very familiar (on average 1/3 of the graduating class attends UPenn each year in addition to other top 20 schools). It’s frustrating but since most of his friends are waiting to hear from Ivies at least he’s not alone in the wait. While UD is high on his list the cost of Temple is $10K less and it would be nice to know all of his options.
Cookies510 UD is alot of $$$$ if you are oos. The amount is ridiculous. I am in state and it is less of course. My son wants to stay on campus so the in state tuition plus dorm is the same as his 2nd choice that is looking more like the first now is 1:smaller school 2: there oos tuition and dorm room is equal to UD 3: admission is organized. 4:He has his acceptance in his major statistics .5: My other son attends
nuch89 as was stated: its not so much where you land, its what you do with it when you land
Cookies510 Good Luck to your son.
@chestnut804 The OOS tuition isn’t ridiculous since he received a $12K merit scholarship. So Temple wouldn’t be a huge difference if he were to live on campus (about $5K) but would be significant if he lives at home (we live in Center City). I just want to know all the options so we can make a decision.
Hopefully, you hear something soon. In the worst case scenario is your son willing to start as undecided and then switch? I looked it up and while Statistics is a restricted major requiring a certain GPA to change, the requirement is only a 2.25 so it doesn’t seem as if there’s huge demand. Hopefully, its just an administrative processing issue that will be resolved soon. As frustrating as the waiting is it probably is better to hold out a few more weeks if its what he really wants.
Cookies510 its undeclared not undecided. The issue would be its restricted from what I have heard. I guess we would have to inquire infomation to see how hard would it be to transfer if he really wants to attend UD. I think at this point he is just wants to know what Ud has decided. I know for my son he does not want to attend UD undeclared. Thank You for your interest and time to look it up. Its wonderful your son has a great scholarship to help with the tuition. Good luck on the school of his choice. It sounds like be deserves to go anywhere.
Daughters major disappeared on Monday and today we got the confetti with new letter attached as an update with acceptance!! . No mention of merit. Accepted to business school marketing major which was first choice.
She is relieved but I too have bad vibe. Cost will be $48,174 and by sophomore year will be over 50 grand. She has also been accepted to other schools which much bigger packages so I too am wondering if worth it. Was originally daughter’s first choice, but this waiting game has left her with bad taste in mouth, as she doesn’t feel like she is really wanted and fears overcrowding in Sept. Her other schools she was accepted to have sent so many congratulatory letters she feels more welcomed . Relieved it’s over, good luck to those still waiting. My advice, speak directly to admissions counselor to speed up process. The person who answers the phone can send an internal email to them and have them contact you. Good luck everyone
booklover28 Congratulations ! I’m so glad the waiting is over. I know you have been waiting for a long time. Best wishes to your daughter. It sounds like she is very smart.and will make the right choice .
@chestnut804 thanks so much. Same to you!
The transfer to a restricted major happens all the time but you have to make sure you work with the counselors and take the right classes. OOS, you don’t need an extra semester at 27K. UD is 2 hours from home and of course has hockey. I’m still going to wait out the decision before I finalize accepting the other offers. What happened to “ROLLING ADMISSIONS”??? Applied Nov 20th.
Congrats @booklover28 ! Can you share your D’s stats? We are still waiting for my sons decision. We are also OOS and applied for business. Thanks!
