My son was accepted two months ago and like sthe campus but is concerned since sports or not a huge part of the school like Univ of Alabama Syracuse, JMU or Michigan State. The shops and bars at the end of campus look great but after being on campus for an hour we had seen everything and is a little concerned that it could get a little boring. I love the school because its a few hours from home and like the ease of knowing each semester exactly what classes he needs to take. Love honest feeback about the social scene and how active the campus is on the weekends.

My S is freshman, in band and has loved his experience so far. I was surprised there weren’t so many kids at the football games, like packed stadium, but there were some so certainly if you’re into it, kids go. Regardless, the kids find their own social scene which likely depends on what they get involved in, (and there are a ton of clubs to join), but my S has not had any time to be bored. There’s been some parties he’s been to, but usually he and his group will hang out in each others’ dorms or go for late night food! He’s been loving it.

Definitely not boring! While the football stadium might not be full (I’ve had kids at Rutgers and Clemson), there are dages going on, so game days are very fun in spite of not actually watching football (and my Clemson tiger tends to leave games at halftime anyway). It’s not a suitcase school.

If your son is looking for a rah-rah sports college experience, this is not the place for him. Tons of clubs, social and theme fraternities. My son has graduated and says it is more difficult for a guy to go to fraternity parties if not in a fraternity. Much easier for girls. What is your son’s major? That may have an influence. I have told my kids fit and major are key drivers (and cost too).

I’ve had kids at 6 universities, at each one it was hard for guys to get into parties if they were not in a frat or sport.
