University of Delaware Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

That’s a good sign! Can I ask what major?

Portal just changed to say February 1 decision date for us, hoping to hear good news tomorrow.

I read a facebook post of someone who attended the financial aid webinar. They said the message was that due to the FAFSA delays merit wouldn’t be out until mid-March and financial aid mid-April. Did anyone else attend the webinar and hear the same?

Unfortunately I didn’t get home in time to view it but that is very disappointing as FAFSA should have nothing to do with merit.

Yes that is what they said. I’m not sure why fafsa would affect merit timing, and other universities still gave out merit with decisions or soon after

We missed the beginning of the talk. In the invite, it says the recording would be posted on the admitted student portal but it’s hasn’t been yet

Continuing the discussion from University of Delaware Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions:

I called them this morning. Yes merit is delayed until mid-March. Ugh.
Are they tying decisions to financial aid because they don’t want to offer merit to those who qualify for financial aid? Maybe it’s two different pots of money and they have to be specific about which type of money they are accessing?

Attended the session last night and yes, they are saying mid-March for Merit. I am definitely getting a lack of transparency vibe from UD and last night’s session only added to that. They were very clear that FAFSA does not factor in merit awards, but yet indicated that merit is delayed this year because of the FAFSA delays. If the internal IT is somehow tied together so that the merit process is impacted in some way, then just say that. If you are behind due to a lack of staffing or something else, then just say that! Finding it hard to believe any information that’s coming out from UD and that’s not good. UD was top two for us, but it’s slipping fast.

Agree with lack of transparency. They kept moving the date for merit even before we knew about the FAFSA delay.

Did they mention if they will add more admitted students days? Most people will want offer in hand before attending so the Feb and March ones seem ill timed.

They stated the current admitted student dates (2/24, 3/9 and 4/13) with no mention of adding additional dates.

Did they mention when registration will open for accepted students days?

It’s tough. My son received some surprisingly strong merit offers from his other top contenders. He loves UD and would almost certainly attend, but it’s hard to turn down $40,000-$60,000 in tuition (over the course of 4 years, of course). Even if he were to receive an offer that wasn’t quite as strong as from the other schools, he would probably still go.

I think they said to look for an email this Friday.

Thanks

Yes, I listened and they said that several times. The financial aid rep I spoke to said mid-Feb for merit, and mid March or later for need based, but they said mid-mar/mid-apr several times in webinar.

It doesn’t have anything to do with fafsa. They also reiterated that. The merit is expected to go out mid March but the FAFSA data isn’t even coming to them until first half of March. So the need based is mid-Apr but that depends on whether the govt sends data in first half of mar as they’ve promised.

I don’t recall them saying that.

Yup, that’s what I mentioned that FAFSA has nothing to do with it. Why the delay with merit as they were supposed to announce it by now based on previous portal update.
