University of Edinburgh

Hi there! A couple of days ago I got an unconditional offer from the University of Edinburgh to study law (Hons)! However, looking at their website, it seems like this isn’t the normal decision timeline. Does anyone know what’s going on with this early offer notification date? I don’t think it’s mentioned on their website at all.

I also got an offer from the University of Glasgow to study law about a week prior to Edinburgh! Again, not sure why these two gave decisions so early but I’m obviously thrilled. If anyone has an explanation for Edinburgh that’d be really helpful - unlike Glasgow, its website doesn’t discuss early offers.

British universities can give decisions at any time between the application and the final deadline. Nothing to worry about at all.

Did you apply via UCAS?.

If you have an unconditional offer then you’ve presumably met their entry requirements already. I’ve heard elsewhere of US students in that situation getting “early” acceptances to Edinburgh and some other unis.

Yes, I did! I just heard that it’s normal for the decisions to get released around January-April.

UK schools tend to respond on a rolling basis. I assume you’ve researched to confirm you can meet your long-term objectives with a British law degree?

It’s common for international students who meet more than the basic entrance criteria - like if they want AABB Highers-> you have 4 AP5s in relevant subjects, you’re clearly above what they want.

These are two difficult, prestigious acceptances!

However, law is not very portable - what will you do with the degree?

In addition, new rules for internationals and Brexit trebling costs for Europeans mean international student applications (with their international tuition) have all but collapsed, with some universities on the brink of bankruptcy - not universities as ancient and prestigious as Edinburg and Glasgow but more than you’d think (also linked to government funding’s drastic cuts and government budget in dire straits).
