Hi @Melissa96 thank you for posting here. It’s extremely helpful!

Our son applied and is awaiting his decision.

He’s at a private Florida prep school with straight A’s from 9th through this this, his senior year, to date.

4.0 unweighted, 4.45 weighted. 13 AP classes total.

1510 SAT. Captain of varsity cross country, and a few other EC’s.

The honors program is what he really wants but we’ve heard so many different versions of how that selection process works.

Can you give a quick few bullet points on how applicants are actually selected for honors and, if possible, a rough idea of what the stats are for those applicants?

Again, thank you so much!

Don’t know the methodology but this is on the Honors webpage.

2023 ADMITTED STUDENT PROFILE

Acceptance rate: 12.6%

  • 14,089 applicants
  • 1,778 admitted

Middle 50 percent:

  • GPA: 4.5 - 4.7
  • ACT: 33 - 35
  • SAT: 1480 - 1550

Yes, the process is the true mystery.

We have heard that essays come into play and that students currently in the UF honors program are involved in the selection process but I don’t know what to believe.

I do know we can just ā€œwait and seeā€ but that’s no fun.

Decisions are made in the admissions office in conjunction with Honors looking at the student’s academic profile and their honors essay. Honors students are not involved in the decision making (that stopped the year before last)

Thank you so much! It’s seemingly a small bit of information but, wow, do we talk about this process as a family for hours on end. Every little bit helps.

@Melissa96 If an applicant intends to get an AA degree by the end of HS, does it affect their chances at regular decision?

Specifically having an AA degree doesn’t affect the freshman decision at all.

@Melissa96 : now that we are close to EA release, does UF have any statistics that could help us get ready? Thank you.
