University of Florida Class of 2028 Official Thread

CLAS has a college level foreign language requirement to graduate.

Okay, so to clarify something I read on the link, if I am currently taking AICE Spanish language, and I pass that exam this May, the requirement will be met and I won’t need to take a foreign language at UF?

Right if you pass the exam you would get Intermediate Spanish 1 and the requirement is met.

Thank you so much!!

Do students in the undergraduate business school need to take a language at UF? Thanks!

No, they do not.

Did you commit to UF? We are waiting for one more, but UF is a top choice here!

Yep, I’m committed.

Did you ever get an answer to this? Do you need to have a roommate lined up before you get to select your building/room?

No, they have a roomate matching tool once you sign the housing agreement thing. You fill out a survey and it finds matches. Room selection is not till the 2nd week of May and it’s based on when you paid the original deposit. Whichever roomate has the higher selection data picks for both.

Do you know what happens if you do not find a match before you are scheduled to select? Do you just pick an “empty” spot, or are you not allowed to register until you have found a match? I paid the deposit in early September, so I may have an earlish timeslot.

The roomate matching tool turns off 2 days before so you would be put with someone random and move forward with room selection that week. At least that’s how I understand it.

Here is what it says on the site:
If you have signed your Student Housing Agreement by 11:59 p.m. EST on May 12, 2024, you will be assigned a room selection appointment between 07:30 a.m. EST on May 14, 2024 and 12:00 p.m. EST on May 17, 2024. Otherwise, you will be able to select a space beginning 01:00 p.m. EST on May 17, 2024.

Once you are all set with your pair, choose your space(s) during your room selection appointment.

As a reminder, the student with the first room selection appointment will select spaces for both members of the roommate pair. Once a roommate pair has selected a room, the roommate pair is locked and individuals will be unable to leave the pair.

Does anyone happen to know when the dorms close and reopen on holidays? For example, do students need to be out of the dorms by the end of the day on Friday the 22nd and cannot get back into the dorms until the afternoon of Sunday the 1st?
Edit: just contacted housing and they said for short breaks like TG and spring dorms remain open.

And can anyone recommend a shuttle service to and from Jacksonville airport?

Hello All. I need some advice. My child is considering UF very strongly but is a bit overwhelmed about the process. Can someone outline the housing process at this point for me? Is it too late to get on campus housing if she hasn’t already committed and signed up?

Did you pay the $25 housing deposit when your child applied?

We have not paid any deposits yet, including this one. Does that mean she will not get housing?

Not sure if she won’t get housing, but the $25 puts them in line to get housing, so the later you pay that the harder it will be to get it. We paid that the first day we could back in September.

First thing is to apply for housing which is the 25 dollar application fee. This fee puts you on the list for housing. The date of application sets your priority status for preferences in housing. After acceptance and commiting the housing office will send for your preferences and room selection. You are not guaranteed any specific dorm or room type. (But you should get housing of some type).

My D24 has decided to attend another university and opt out of her admission to UF. In order not to lose her spot in line in regards to on campus housing, she accepted her enrollment online. Does anyone know the process for declining enrollment now? When I Google it, it suggests submitting a withdrawal form through the Register’s office, but it seems that’s for kids who are enrolled and taking classes. But maybe it’s the same? Or is it as simple as sending an email to the Admissions office? Thanks for any advice you can give!

I think if you just go to the enrollment confirmation form and say not attending, they will eventually pull you from the housing line when they shut down your UF account. Also, you don’t technically join the queue for housing selection until you sign the housing agreement, so it probably won’t matter even if you don’t do anything.
