How were your gpa, xtra curricular etc etc.? I know being in IB will boost my gpa a lot for UF recalculation and in a sport, over 200 volunteers hrs and attended a conference over the summer at a college in a field that I’m interested in. First generation and low income , top 22% in my school ranking - but it’s the SAT that’s really hurting me bc I tanked them. Do you have any friends attending that might have been i the same boat?.
Hmmm as a graduate student the focus isn’t on yest scores. My GPA unweighted after my undergraude degreer was a 3.74. I wrote a fabtastic essay and didn’t bother to do the GMAT because MS Management program doesn’t require it. I didn’t attend UF for undergrad. I went to UNF. I’m not sure how I would have did back then because I didn’t apply. I don’t know any undergrad students as all the students I talk with are in grad school.
Sorry for the typos
But I don’t think you should worry too much about the test scores. It really is holistic. I literally got into the graduate program with no test scores provided.
That is the opposite of what I have seen over the last 4 years watching UF results for my kids.
Interesting. I have just noticed after reading the threads of the last few years that while a lot of the high stat students get in, there are suprises with low stat students getting in and a few high stat ones not. But, you probably have followed it more closely than I have. I am not really sure beyond what I have read in the 2025-2027 threads.
When my son applied, I would agree with you, but last year I know of a few kids that got rejected by FSU with lower scores (ie 25 ACT and 1150 SAT) that got into UF.
Those kids must have had some amazing ECs! But i’m really glad it worked out for them.
A lottt of the students that go to UF also were also admitted to FSU
Amazing essays and their EC’s tied into their major and essay.
I did know one boy from my son’s class that had a higher GPA and his SAT was 100 points higher than my son that got rejected to UF. He even had an older sister there. So when my son got in and the other boy didn’t we were shocked. So must have been my son’s EC’s and essay that helped him.
That just shows that UF is holistic while FSU is really not. I don’t have any evidence to support my claim, but I think if you can get into FSU, you generally have the academic credentials to get into UF. From there, it’s all about EC and essay quality.
I feel differently about whether UF is holistic or not. Among the 10 schools I applied, UF is the one allowing me to submit least stuffs. I have 6 recommendation letters, 3 from outside 3 from teachers/counselor, UF took none If I remember right. For essay, only the common app essay required, if you are not applying honors college. There is no way in the portal for you to submit supporting documents. Basically just an essay. Compared to other schools such as the Texas schools which require a lot of essays and have an option to submit supporting documents, resume, etc. I feel UF is more emphasis on GPA/ACT/SAT and maybe class rank, rigor of the curriculum etc.

This is what UF makes decisions on, so they are definently holistic at least to some degree. ECs are on the same level as academics as is the application essay, so they are both critical to get in.
Based on what I’ve researched, I’d also say the same thing. There definitely seems to be a need to have just the right combination of factors. My guess is that UF likely has an autoreject GPA/SAT score cut off, but I think these cutoffs are a lot lower than most people think, and that essay and ECs as well as demographics (like first gen) are very important to UF.
Do we think admit/reject rate of AA’s will fluctuate noticeably because of the Supreme Court ruling? I’m not asking about thoughts on the ruling itself, rather if anyone thinks it will have a noticeable affect in college admissions.
UF requires a supplemental essay, that is important to them along with the common app essay. They care about rigor and EC’s, so I think the need for a resume isn’t always necessary when you can list all awards and activities in the common app and cover most of this info there. Obviously not everything, but you should only include in the common app your most important EC’s and awards. There is a counselors recommendation, just not teacher recommendations. If you applied to other Florida colleges, you would understand UF is much more holistic than FSU, USF or UCF.
FSU is SAT driven today. They are desperately trying to hold off UCF and USF. My prediction is they won’t and will fail. They have wasted decades as an underachieving school. UCF and USF have already flown by FSU in several categories, plus anything is nicer than dangerous Tallahassee which is flooded with thousands of non-fsu students just there to have a good time. Thus, FSU is trying to raise its profile via stats of admission. UF can afford to take a different approach.
It will be interesting to see the results of this with admissions this year. I noticed in some schools that prioritize race/ethnicity had institutional essays asking questions that gave the student an opportunity to discuss their race/ethnicity.
Yes and it was interesting that FSU lowered the standards for Vires scholarship this year for anyone with 100% Bright Futures now qualifies and they increased the amount from $12k to $16K. Trying to attract kids to choose FSU instead of UF along with UCF and USF.
