Totally understand, but housing at UF for freshman is not guaranteed and very difficult (at least last year), most kids put housing deposit down when they apply over the summer and still have limited housing options. You’d likely have to find a roommate who sent deposit months ago to get a decent dorm selection number.
You’re going to get in. You should pay the 25$ ![]()
I don’t think it will make a significant different if I do it now vs tomorrow at 6 right?
It could, since a bunch of newly accepted students will probably pay tomorrow. You can jump them in line.
In addition, people who have over the last month been denied or deferred elsewhere (like UT Austin) would have been depositing as UF becomes higher on their list.
If you didn’t send the deposit months ago, it will not make much difference now. My son sent deposit last November minutes after housing opened and got a mediocre number. The good spots fill up instantly. UF recommends applying for housing when you apply for admission. It hard to swallow the fee, but worth it.
It’s correct that UF doesn’t consider mid year report or SRAR for 1st semester senior year right? If so, I suspect the chances of admission are around 10% for d24. She really needed that 1st semester.
I believe that is correct. My DD would have loved to have submitted her first semester grades. But I believe that they do look at what classes they are taking for senior year.
That’s what I thought- it was interesting to see that UF downloaded the optional report with 1st semester grades, though.
Yes, housing has no idea who will be admitted since Admissions holds that information until the very end so portal astrology isn’t possible.
So housing doesn’t know who is admitted yet? i would think they would bc of getting slammed with acceptances tomorrow.
No, they don’t know yet. We also do not require a deposit (other than the $25 fee), students just sign the agreement if they are going to attend by May 1st.
oh man ![]()
so i have proof of submitting this application on both dates - is my priority date today or 10/03?
Melissa is the ultimate resource but having gone through this last year I am very confident your priority date is 10/3 or whenever you initially sent in the 25$ deposit. My son had 2 dates last year and his earlier date was the one his housing was based on. Florida residents get priority over OOS as they can apply earlier so my son was lucky to find a roommate from Florida and he/they got their 1st pick of dorm.
That’s amazing. If they can convince 20,000 applicants who won’t ever attend-- to put down $25…
That’s half a million dollars in revenue.
thank you very much! i hope you are right
Housing and admissions are two separate legal entities which run on two different fiscal year calendars. For future reference pay the 25 bucks with your application–and definitely don’t look for portal astrology–there isn’t any.
And as for keeping the housing fee if you don’t get in–the combination of UF application plus the housing fee is less than most colleges application fee.
Melissa - do applicants ever get admitted even if they tanked the SAT - but are good with everything else?
If you go on last year’s thread you will see several low SATs who got admitted with great gpas, ECs, and essays. They tend to be hooked though (first gen etc). It can’t be crazy low though, 1200-1220 is the lowest i’ve seen here.
