University of Florida Class of 2028 Official Thread

Do you think this could be a case of yield protection or just a consequence of holistic admissions?

I’m curious about this. I’ve seen seversl people mention tuition cost outside of Florida. Ingrew up here do never entered my mind to go anywhere else. I just assumed all states had their own brights future program. Can someone provide me with some insight on that because based on the replies listed here that doesn’t seem to be the case.

Definently not. I believe Florida has the best system like this in the country. Here in Washington state we get nothing no matter how high gpa or test score. It sucks.

what is the bright futures program?

Basically high test score Florida students can quality from anywhere 1/2 tuition to full tuition at any florida public. I believe you only need a 30 ACT to get full tuition!

oh wow
 i’d be all set

Good question. When i was in highschool all you needed was a 3.2 gpa and all the core classes required for college and bright futures paid for 75% of your tuition. If you had a 3.5 gpa and 100 hours of volunteer they paid for 100%. I think its much different now.

Oh no so sorry to hear that. I had no idea. I’m curious do you become a florida resident after a few months of living here as a student. Would you then be considered in state?

No. You have to own property for like a year in order to become instate I think.

Oh no, definitely not. But that would be nice. And in state is like $37k (U Mass)

Wow! I can’t imagine

WA in state is 12k a year. 37 is crazy!

I am including room and board to be fair.

Wowww thats insane. For florida residents it’s about 18k and that includes room and board.

I looked it up- not sure why I was adding in an extra $3k maybe for a certain program but I think its $34 actually

Wowww even being an oos its cheaper to vome to florida.

Yes, I think that is why- when everyone questions why so many apply to Florida- it’s crazy not to from the east coast at least- it is less expensive out of state than in state in many cases and you aren’t even getting a program as highly ranked. So why not apply?

I have no idea - but when I looked at the scattergram of those who were accepted to UF from my daughter’s school - there were many other kids that had stats in that ballpark that got rejected. In your case, your chances might be more favorable because you mentioned that you are first gen and that’s a helpful hook at a lot of schools.
