I miss the admissions culture of the “olden” days where based on a certain GPA and a certain SAT score, you had a fairly good idea of what schools you could get into. Even ec’s didn’t need to be insane (i.e. you didn’t need to cure cancer or be a founder of multiple non-profits or be a published author). Today, it seems like admissions is anyone’s guess. Luckily my kid is a little bit on the aloof side when it comes to admissions and doesn’t even realize that UF is coming out today. Usually, I’m the one who is stressed and I’m the one who needs to remind her to check her portal. While she has been admitted 8 schools so far, UF is the first school where her chances of admissions are closer to the 50/50 range. For all prior admissions, her chances were greater than 50% (where she not only got in but received a fairly substantial scholarship). However, for all of her remaining decisions that she is waiting on, the chance of getting rejected will be 50% or higher. Also, I finally got access to my daughter’s portal - so I really want to check at 6pm because I know that she will check much later than that. Still, I want to honor her privacy and her moment (good or bad). Good luck everyone - 6pm cannot come soon enough!

Daughter is in-state and ranked 12th at a very competitive, big public high school. I’m optimistic as her scores are all in the 75+ percentile for last year’s admissions. We are hoping her ECs are good enough to make her stand out. No use in reading the tea leaves though. It’ll be ice cream and South Park for us until 6pm.

In State is insanely competitive and difficult. It is opposite of what UNC is. FL does not protect its in state students like NC does. Also, our state is just too large to have just one state option at UF’s level. The whole state will be on pins and needles today, happens every year.

Agreed. Got accepted to my dream school (Penn State for Chemical Engineering), but OOS is 62K. Because PSU is not a “State” school, they give very little Merit, etc. Most you get is like 5K for Honors program. So, Florida is looking pretty good rn. Got into FSU already. Just waiting for UF.

Son got the OOS tuition waiver at FSU but wants to go to U of Florida. If he gets in today, I think I know where he ends up. Shame I didn’t sign up for housing early. $25 seems so reasonable to lock in housing.

My SIL is a prof emeritus at PSU, and we thought about it, but the family connection helps with the foot in the door and not so much the cost. OOS is too expensive.

I’m going to submit my housing app as soon as I get in. If I get something, great, but I’m also fine with off-campus.

Good for you, IB is a rigorous program, our D23 Gator also got 100% Bright Futures from her AICE, Cambridge Diploma.
Her school offered AICE and the AP Capstone Diploma but not IB

I think so we would forgo FSU if he got in here. We have some money put aside. In state UVA COA is around 40K so anything around there is comparable. Probably not a great ROI but he has to live there for 4 years. Maybe Florida gives us some money and makes it a no brainer.
