University of Florida Class of 2028 Official Thread

Mine too - she’s hanging out with friends and working out and feels no urgency to check. Luckily, I have her portal password and was able to find out at 6pm. Otherwise, I would have been going nuts by now. Still, I’d love to see her reaction! Congrats to your daughter!

THE OHIO STATE pls.

How do you know they are lower performers? Maybe they also tutor other students and work 3 jobs and had to learn English as a second language. Holistic means holistic, and they are looking at more than just the test scores.

My daughters weren’t great test takers, and their Florida high school was their third, so their gpas included grades from two other high schools that were a LOT more competitive than the Florida one. One went OOS, but the other to a private college in Florida. Graduated in engineering and now, 6 years out, makes more than I ever did. She’s a very smart kid. Her IQ is quite high and she’s a really hard worker (both in school and in her career). How was she supposed to show that on a college app if they weren’t going to review holistically?

Their hs had kids split pretty evenly between the big 3 - UF, FSU, UCF. All seemed happy with their choices and I don’t remember any of them thinking they were robbed by not getting into UF. I do think the girl who came in 2nd in the class felt robbed she wasn’t Val. She walked across the stage clinking and clattering with all the hardware she’d earned, all the ribbons and cords. The Val? He had a few cords but that was it. I know he went to UF but not sure where she went.

Totally agree. People think stats are enough when they are not anymore and get upset at the system for it. Also, congrats to your daughters!

And California where parents are mad their kid didn’t get into ucla or Berkeley. Or Michigan. Or Washington. Or Maryland. Reality is some majors ( cs, etc) are harder than others and stats don’t tell the whole story.

Congrats to all accepted and sorry for those highly qualified in-state applicants that were rejected. Even being OOS that S24 applied to UF, I think public schools should do more to protect highly qualified in-state applicants…

OOS S24, 3.84 UW GPA (4.0 scale), 1460 SAT, was offered PACE for CS, so he’ll be moving on…

Just had a few great days visiting schools, but plenty of rejections and disappointments these past few weeks.

Once again, good luck to every student where ever they end up. Rejection is an opportunity to prove yourself!!!

You and some others are not seeing the points of frustration from in state parents who’s kids have done all of those things and in addition the obv academic achievements. To life long in state families, it’s a huge deal. It’s a massively financially impactful deal as well. Do you understand that other states do not afford FL families the same “Great deal, amazing value” to our FL kids as our FL schools afford OOS folks? It’s not as simple or realistic to say oh UGA accepted me, I’ll just attend there; that is a $200,000 difference and for most families a big “Not possible”. So hearing OOS parents brag about our “Bargain” schools will make a FL resident a bit salty.

Does anyone know if there is a admitted students day?

Totally understand but that is the same frustration that parents in California, Washington, Michigan and others face too. They also have to choose another in state option or pay cos prices. It seems Texas and North Carolina (and Wisconsin soon) have a more favorable process for in-state kids. I’m sorry it didn’t work out, this is all so hard.

This isn’t just a florida problem though so I get your frustration. What I don’t get, and maybe you can help me better understand, is why you cannot attend one of the other 11 public universities in your state. I believe they are the same price as UF or even cheaper. They are all really, really good. You have 2 others in the top 100 and another close to it! You are fortunate in this way. Here in my state, we only have 1 highly ranked public and getting in in-state is far from assured. I sure would not be complaining if I were a Florida resident. Just my 2 cents, and i’m still really sorry that your daughter didn’t get in. Rejection sucks no matter which college it comes from.

UFlorida is in the top 30, the other schools (except FSU) are all worse.

But yeah I agree we only have 1 “good” public school and it’s ranking is over a 100. (UTK)

i do know someone w ap capstone diploma 1400 sat and 4.4 weighted that was rejected lowkey a lottery

A bit down right now as daughter found out that while she was on time with everything, she was apparently late on submitting SRAR grades. She wasn’t aware they were required initially and then turned them in after 11/15. So everything else was done on time, but I believe as a result she was now moved to the back of the line, which is sad because she was very much excited about UF and has a 5.1 gpa and a 1510 sat, with awards.

Can’t easily express how frustrated I am as a parent that she missed that requirement - which is on her, but she got no emails and it was buried down deep in the portal so easily missed. Not sure what this means for her chances, is there even are any now.

Correct. The fact the question is even asked is very ridiculous. Why did he not apply to the other 11 FL schools? Same reason lol

Yes, and they are right. My FL child shouldn’t be accepted to Mich above an equal from in state. The issue in FL is very different than those other states mentioned due to our large population and UF being the only state school at that level. California has 4 Publics even higher than UF to serve their large population along with high level privates with massive endowments and scholarships like Stanford, USC, Pepperdine etc They have a great situation in CA with a lot of options. It’s just not the same in FL And again, the onslaught of OOS applicants looking for a “Bargin” in FL knowing they will also get a fair chance….well, makes it unfair for in state kids. This does not happen in NC where they protect UNC and advantage the in state kids from being overrun by OOS applicants.

Yes. There are 5. The dates should be up very soon. They are mid-March-early April

I’m really sorry. That sucks.

Did anyone here rejected get into UGA or vice versa? It seems a lot of people end up choosing between the two, or have the choice made for them. UGA Is now one our top choices depending on deferrals from Wisconsin and Michigan. Rejected from UF (OOS 4.8 weighted, 3.98 UW, 31 composite/33 SS) good EC’s and essays. DC preferred UGA over UF I think so it’s all fine but still disappointing.
