Maybe I haven’t asked enough follow-up questions, but at least the online class my kid took last semester didn’t really seem to be focused on lectures. There was an interactive online platform on which class discussions took place, and there were some short lectures (not recordings of live lectures, I don’t think – just different short lectures on specific topics) to watch, but the bulk of the class experience was the interactive online “discussions” and then group projects/papers. This was intro to sports management. He’s doing another online class now to handle a core requirement; I know he has a TA who graded a paper he submitted
and I know he was happy the online version of this class didn’t have a final.

So UF would recalculate your GPA using weighted to account for the rigor of the corses you chose to take
If you went to school in Florida class rank is based on weighted GPA to reward students that challenge themselves with honors and college level classes

You would of been the valedictorian of your school if it was in Florida

The counselor report asks about rigor so UF probably would have known this as well

Is anyone able to see preview dates after logging in here: https://uf.tfaforms.net/f/preview-registration. I can get to the form, but there are no dates to pick from. This one requires Gatorlink login to get into by the way.

Thank you! It’s really tough when our decisions (I chose to change jobs because of COVID) adversely impact our kids.

Same - no dates showing.

Admittedly, with your child’s very high ACT - I can definitely understand why you are frustrated and upset. If you appeal, you should mention having to change jobs due to Covid. While I don’t want to give you false hope, I did read about at least 2-3 cases where people successfully won their appeal. But they brought information that the admissions committee would have not seen during their initial review.

Parental guilt is the worst! (just FYI we all have that guilt, and we have all screwed up or messed up our kids somehow- and if we think we have not its either because we are ignorant to it or because it’s still coming. I for one started early by insisting there was no way my son could have ADHD, he was just being a boy- and I know think the delay led to his language processing disorders, sigh, it’s a no win situation). Luckily your kid is so clearly going to land on his feet and a move to Florida during covid also has PLENTY of upsides!

I had one bio class (huge lecture) where one of the grad students sold the note in the bookstore (yes, I’m that old). It was great because when I missed something in the lecture (WHEN, not if) I could find that point on the notes. I think they were $1 per class or maybe per week. Also, I was terrible at drawing the cells and other things and I could study from the nice, correct pictures.

My daughter took one online class and really liked it. Her school gave first priority for most online classes to students who couldn’t be on campus (in one of the satellite campuses or registered for all online) but the few open to kids on campus were popular as kids did like the flexibility of one or two online classes in the mix.

But if you don’t like them, don’t take them.

I am going to assume that some programs have very few online programs. For example, engineering?

Thanks for the heads up on the link! Registered.

What March Dates?

How strong is UF’s engineering program? Does the program focus on hands-on learning or more theoretical?

March 22nd

Apologies if this is a repeated question, is summer requisite mandatory? For full time student, do you pay extra for summer classes? Of, is it covered by the full tuition paid for fall and/or spring semester? What are summer housing options for OOS? Thank you.

@Melissa96 : when do you anticipate the admitted students day to be out? Will they be grouped/organized by colleges and/or intended majors? We are OOS so some advanced planning would be needed. Thank you.

I am there now and there are some sections and some classes they do not and will not have an in person offering.

business and journalism both have significant amount. and freshman pre-reqs

Not taking them is not an option in all cases. In some cases online is the only option.
