Yeah, you are probably right. The 5500 is not nearly enough, so it would have to be a private loan which I realize are the worst types. I just don’t know how 5500 will be enough no matter which college I choose. Unless I attend Community college.
What FSU scholarships are still undecided?
Wait until FAFSA shakes down. Hopefully everything will work out and you won’t have to take out much loans at all.
I don’t qualify for FAFSA. The CSS schools that I already got packages from gave me basically nothing (though I might have messed it up because it was so incredibly confusing). The problem is my dad is self-employed so our income is quite variable. So some years (like last year, which is what the FAFSA is based on) we did pretty well, but this year we are not doing as great. So we are expected to pay as if we were in the same financial situation as last year when we definently are not.
If the FAFSA numbers don’t appear that you have great need (and even then it is iffy), it is unlikely an out of state school is going to award any need based money at all. You can ask for them to relook at your situation, called professional judgment, but that’s unlikely to award you a lot either.
Really, pay attention to the finances. It is unlikely to ‘just all work out.’ Private loans, even those called student loans, are very different than government student loans - different repayment terms, different qualifications, higher interest rates.
Thank you. I’ll hope for the best FAFSA wise, but otherwise I guess I’ll probably be doing FSU or CC even though I really don’t care for any of those options.
FSU Presidential Scholars is still undecided. Son is up for that but almost wants it to not work out so he doesn’t have to consider FSU. It requires an in person two day event in early April.
Do you have your heart set on going to school in Florida? Florida Tech is rolling and gives awesome merit…with your stats I would bet you could get full tuition or pretty darn near close. I got over half tuition in merit. They’re also really generous with AP and DE credits. I could complete undergrad in 3 years there with my credits.
I did do Florida Tech and I got good merit. But they have a not to great business program.
When I went on my tour in June, there were a couple kids interested in business. I remember the presenter saying while they aren’t known for their business program it is up and coming and they have really great internships and opportunities. Does it stack up to UF in terms of prestige? No, but I would take another look at the types of internships they offer and maybe the acceptances into MBA programs, they might be more affordable and still give you a great experience and the same types of opportunities!
Thank you. I will take another look. I just checked and I got $26,500 from them so that definently helps!
I’m sending you a private message!
UF is trending today on X
why? what for?
Ahh just saw it
What was it?
Was he notified that he was a finalist or something? How does he know he is being considered other than being accepted into honors?
Oh wow! Very interesting.
