University of Florida Class of 2028 Official Thread

Is it the same letter sent electrically through the portal, or additional materials?

The letter was the same as what is in the portal. The package also contained UF stickers and a big folder with upcoming dates/deadlines. I don’t believe there was anything else.

Interesting how ACT is down while everything else is way up.

ACT is not as popular for UF students, last year’s common data set showed 81% of students submitted the SAT where 41% submitted an ACT score. So even some submitted both.

That makes sense. I forgot that they really push SAT over ACT in Florida.

Definitely bigger on the east coast of the US in general. When I applied to college from Pennsylvania 30 years ago the SAT was the only option.

Yeah, it seems to be popular on the east and west coast and not popular in the middle. I live in Washington state and I was one of the few who did ACT. There were only 2 test centers and you had to fight for a spot. It was crazy.

WOW Impressive

For all those applying next year, here is the calander of dates! EA will be exciting!

Also, just was watching the board meeting admissions parts. It looks like they are going to start a pilot for direct to program admissions in Fall 2025.

I just wanted to come on here and reiterate that you should take CLEPs if you plan to go to UF. I just passed my 3rd test this weekend saving about 700 dollars for each pass. These tests are super easy get the necessary score, so I really recommend trying it out. Modernstates.org will pay your exam fee as well as having a full course to help you learn about the topic and you can take these tests at home on a computer. Just thought I would repost because this is a not as well known money saving tool.

Best advice! Right now, we have 41 credits going in; but will be using CLEP to get close to the 45 max. Yeah - it’s almost like getting a scholarship. My daughter is taking AP Calc BC now and so will take at the very least Pre-calc for Clep (just for the 3 credits). Thank you for sharing! At this point, have you committed to UF?

Pre-calc is so easy. No need to study. Took it Friday and got 76/80 and i’m only in Calc AB. College Composition is also super easy and is worth 6 credits, not just 3.
Not committed yet, but it is looking like I will. I learned last night that my grandparents had a college fund for my dad, but he ended up not going to college, so now they want to give that to me. I’m hoping to graduate in 3 years with clep and that amount from my grandparents is enough to make me get out debt free for all but about 10 grand which is fine.

S24 got admitted with multiple APs. I have never heard about CLEP tests. Is it something that relevant to everyone or specific subset of students?

It is relevant to everyone. Google UF CLEP policy and see if there are any classes on the degree plan that can be replaced with a clep. You can save money in this way. For example, biz majors need microecon and macroecon, both of which are Clep Exam titles. All majors also have a 6 credit writing requirement, and you can get this out of the way with the College Composition Clep Exam. And you can also take a few not on your degree plan for elective credit. I think everyone should take at least 3 cleps just for that reason alone. You save 700ish per exam if you are OOS because you don’t have to pay tuition for that class anymore.

While I think CLEP might be a great choice I have concerning thoughts on taking micro and macro by CLEP. It sounds like from what you have said these CLEPs are really easy and you can get them out of the way in only a few weeks of studying? Micro and macro are a big part of business and back when I went to school I learned so much in those two classes. I don’t think they are something you can just cram in and retain all the info. Just my opinion though so take it as that.

Also congrats for working on things to make your dream school affordable. I would think your family is very proud of you.

Thank you! I will be carefully reviewing micro and macro econ before taking the exams, since I know they will be very important. That will be my summer project. The ones that I am pushing through quickly right now are elective credit stuff. I will be paying more attention to the business ones, definently. As a sidenote, I believe the knowledge I will learn from studying economics on the side will be similar if not better than what I would get at UF because those two classes are taught online without live classes anyway.

My son is a sophomore in the business school at UF. He took AP Calc, Stats, Micro and Macro. He could have placed out of all of them, but chose to still take Micro and Macro at UF. He was glad he did since they were drastically harder and different than the AP class he had in high school. That is the concern with trying to CLEP out of too many classes is you miss out on the opportunity to take ā€œFreshmanā€ classes to ease into the intensity of UF level of classes. In the long run you want to be successful at UF and you want to set up for success and not failure by skipping too many of the intro classes
