Yeah I meant to post that on the South Carolina page, if you see my previous reply it says that. I got the classic scholarship at UGA, $9,520/year.
Does UGA have housing issues where you need to commit early? We are OOS, my daughter is hoping for Honors and seems a good fit for it, but given we just got the Housing application yesterday, wondering if she waits, will she get housing?
There will likely be housing available, but the registration priority is determined by the order in which the $35 housing deposit is made.
So while itâs not essential to deposit now, it does maximize your studentâs choices (in the event that UGA is the final choice). Note that the actual dorm selection isnât made until May.
We made it early - there, UF, and FSU which cost more but all but $50 refundable. Daughter chose none of them.
So many are paying it that itâs part of the cost of doing business.
You sort of have to. Or are made to feel so to get housing youâd want.
Can you pay the housing deposit before accepting admission and depositing for admission?
Yes. Theyâre completely independent.
From the website:
âDo I have to pay the UGA commitment deposit to register for housing?
No. However, you must pay your UGA commitment deposit by the deadline in order to receive an appointment time to choose a space. Registering for housing does not commit you to UGA, it only puts you in line for selecting the space of your choice.â
Yes. Thatâs how they get you. We never committed. In fact it was one of the first schools amongst the possibilities my daughter took off the list, Honors and all. Just too big for her area wise.
All of this is explained in more detail on the admissions blog, but for early action, because of the very short timeframe, they put applications into four separate categories. The very top students are accepted on academics only. No review of other materials. The group below that academically has a holistic review of the entire file. The third group is below the top two groups academically. Not everyone in this group receives a full file review as they are waiting for other academic material (like fall grades) to help the strength of the file. The fourth group are rejected as academically noncompetitive. He talks about it in his FAQs and in the blog comments. https://www.admissions.uga.edu/blog/2024-early-action-faq/
Does anyone have an idea of when deferred applicants will receive indication of acceptance or denial. Thank you.
During RD decision release in march.
The SAT/ACT are actually quite important for some majors including finance. There is an ETS test you can take if you are not happy with your ACT/SAT scores. They will use that as a substitute. I think the 85% acceptance rate is to all Terry majors, but not sure. Finance, accounting, and MIS are typically the three most competitive with the lowest acceptance rate.
mid February
Do we have any indication how important fall grades are? I know they want to see rigorous courses (APs), but does the grade carry as much weight?
Extremely important. If you were deferred, you are in the academic grey zone.
B in an AP class equals an A in a regular class for their GPA recalculation. My guess is it is viewed the same for fall grades.
They are no longer doing the mid February release, and that was anlmost exclusively extremely high RD applicants who would have gotten in EA.
EA deferred finds out with RD in March.
You will find out in March with the RD applicants.
No it will be mid-Feb. That is what they said in the defer info email.
well, the letter they sent my son said mid-February
