University of Georgia Early Action for Fall 2024 Admission

What are the factors making you reconsider your “dream school”? That may help us understand where you need input/opinions.

The only factor making me reconsider UF is cost. I did not get any scolarship there, so I have to pay the full OOS price. I’m not willing to go into tons and tons of debt for any school, as I still have to fund law school after this. I got scolarships basically everwhere else, so those options, such as UGA, are starting to look better.

Do you have a thread with your applications and results?

If not, I suggest starting one to get input on your options. We’ll be happy to help.

My DD is in Rhodes. Gated with loose security in dangerous Memphis and very happy. But no homeless or illegal immigrants on campus.
Oldest is GaTech with homeless on campus left and right.
Both daughters are fine.

it’s hard. my daughter is one of those who gave up her dream school, mainly for $ reasons. I don’t think she has any regrets and I hope there are no lingering doubts, but I know she is happy where she is (at UGA).

I don’t know the cost difference between UF and UGA or your other options, but any difference at least between these 2 would not be worth a major amount of $. some $ might be ok to dish out for a dream school even if the schools are of similar quality- you have to be happy and you don’t want to spend 4 years wondering “what if…”

I don’t know the specifics, but going by what I have seen around here, it’s probably a 15-20k difference per year. When you graduate, no “what if” is worth $75k, especially not between these two academically similar schools.

We are also interested in Double Dawgs for Cognitive Science BS + Artificial Intelligence MS. Any insights are appreciated. Guessing you save a year of tuition (instead of 4+2, it’s 3+2 for 5 years total, but limited intel beyond that so far. We’re visiting in 2 weeks from today.

This is so interesting to me. My S24 is a Florida resident and admitted to UF for Fall, but he also is admitted to UGA, no scholarship, and prefers UGA over UF! It’s all about fit, so very interesting to read that you feel the opposite

Daughter is waiting in RD as she was deferred back in December. She went back and forth between two majors, decided to apply as criminal justice but since she applied over 6 months ago she now is leaning towards engineering. If accepted would she be able to change her major before registering for fall classes?

UGA says they do not admit by major and you can change your major even before classes start.

Has anyone who did not receive merit with their EA acceptance received merit since then? Just wondering if more merit offers have gone out yet. I know that UGA admissions has said they will go out until early April.

We haven’t received any merit, but from what Admissions told our daughter, if it wasn’t awarded with acceptance, there is more coming out in early April or before. I know RD and Honors College decisions are March 15th, so maybe scholarship money comes then too - let’s see.

So excited for our daughter. She just received in invitation to the Honors College, which is great! On top of that, she just got word that she is a finalist for the CURO Honors Scholarship and is invited to interview in early April.
If anyone has any insights on CURO, would love to hear them beyond what’s on the website, ie personal experiences.
Thanks in advance!

awesome news!
I wish I knew more about CURO for you, but it seems like a great opportunity. Combined with UGA Honors she will have a lot of support in whatever she wants to do.

By the way UGA is getting a medical school soon, in case that’s your daughter’s interest. that seems cool.

It seems like my son missed the invite to new dawg days. He was admitted EA. Did they only email the dates, invite to their UGA email. Anyone know how this has been communicated?

My EA OOS kid got email invites to the New Dawgs program at her personal email address on Jan 8 and Feb 22. The sign-up button in the email leads to the portal log in page, so maybe have your son poke around in his portal and look for New Dawg dates there.

We chose to organize our own visit, as my kid wanted to sit in on some classes, meet students in her intended major, tour a couple of LLCs, talk to the department about placement, etc. That worked out great.

We did do the regular tour. The admissions talk at the beginning is less relevant for accepted students, but at least it was more entertaining than the average admissions talk. And the student tour guides are great. They really try to personalize it for the kids, even giving them each time to chat one-on-one with the tour guide while walking between stops on the tour.

Edit to add: we’ve now visited twice. The first time, we stayed at Georgia Center, the on-campus hotel/convention center. When we signed up for a campus tour, they sent us a link for discount reservations at the campus hotel. (Also, the tour gets you a coupon for a decent discount on campus merch!) It was really nice staying right on campus. The second time we got an Airbnb just north of downtown, less than 10 minutes walk to the arch. That worked out really well too.
