University of Georgia versus Indiana University

<p>Hello everyone. Like a lot of other people on this site, I’m a senior trying to make my final college choice.</p>

<p>I’ve narrowed it down to UGA and IU, but can’t seem to decide between them.</p>

<p>Here are a few things to consider:</p>

<p>IU is located in my hometown, and sometimes I feel like I’d like to get away to someplace a little warmer and farther away from my family and high school “comfort zone”. About half my graduating class is headed for IU.</p>

<p>I want to major in Elementary Ed, with a license addition to teach “English as a Second Language”. IU has a higher ranked Elementary Ed program, but Georgia is ranked higher overall. I am also interested in graphic design, which, to my knowledge, Georgia has no program in.</p>

<p>I’ve heard complaints about both school’s lack of: diversity in the student population, proliferation of east coast snobs/southern hillbillies, lack of things to do in town, etc. Are these people correct? Which of the two is the lesser evil? </p>

<p>Cannot decide whether to go greek or not. Sometimes it sounds appealing, other times not so much. Which of these schools has a less overwhelmingly greek population?</p>

<p>IU would be for in-state tuition, while Georgia would obviously be out-of-state. I have scholarships at both; I could finish at IU with zero debt, and at Georgia I would owe about $15,000. I have no objection to working part-time or anything like that. But is the difference in quality worth it? </p>

<p>I’m planning on going to grad school.</p>

<p>Those are the main points I’m trying to figure out. If anyone has any insight, I’d greatly appreciate it.</p>

<p>They are both very similar schools with very nice college towns. Georgia is more conservative than IU and football is the big sport there as compared to IU which would be more liberal and basketball would be more popular. Georgia has a good band scene (I think). Both have nice campuses. They both have big greek scenes and you will get a very good education at both. I know this isn’t much help but you really can’t go wrong with either. Best of luck!</p>

<p>UGA has a more diverse campus, the buildings have a more inviting apppearance and the people and the weather are warmer all year round.
I would choose UGA but your decision is respected , and good luck wherever you choose to go.</p>

<p>Wow- what great choices! I am an IU grad, and one of my kids looked at Georgia and I have been to the campus. Even though you would come out with some debt, I would pick Georgia so that you can have a different experience from staying in your home town. You would be happy at either place, but I am a believer in experiencing something new. You will LOVE Athens. I think it is one of the greatest college towns in the country (Bloomington being another one). It isn’t TOO far from home, either.</p>
