university of hell

i go to loyola md, i can’t stand it. im looking for a school that is not in the worst slum in america, that has a diverse range of students, where people have new and interesting ideas, not everyone acts and looks the same and trys to conform, exciting area, good music scene, has partys as well as bars. i was thinking about uvm, nyu, i don’t really know… what do you guys think, any schools you would suggest?

im sorry, im confused. you state: “im looking for a school that… has a diverse range of students” yet " i was thinking about uvm" …93% of which is caucasian. I don’t really know much about uvm, so i can’t speak regarding its social scene or academics.

nyu fits your description of “exciting area, good music scene, has partys as well as bars” you might want to also think about uc santa cruz or boston university.

best of luck

i go to uvm so i can tell you that it’s diverse in terms of the types of people that go here, but if you’re looking for racial diversity, dont count on it here. i mean, i hate uvm and im transferring next year, but not becuase of a lack of diversity. there are many types of people here. but be ready for something big, spread out, and “diversity” in terms of student drive and motivation. but hey, some like it here.

Sometimes you have to work to get past the facades individuals put up. I’m fairly sure that not everyone is completely “conformist” at your university; it just might take more time to get people to be less guarded and to find out who they really are. If you really want a “non-conformist” place go to Hampshire (DIY attitude to the extreme). However, if a music scene is really essential then I would look into Reed (located in Portland), U-Chicago (would likely value ideas as you said) NYU as you said (generally well-dressed group I might add), and possibly somewhere in Boston. I would give your classmates sometime and then consider transferring.

I’m also looking to transfer to a school thats more diverse and in an exciting area. Schools I’m looking to apply to are BU, Northeastern, and NYU. I hear the parties at NYU and BU aren’t as good as Northeastern’s but NEU is a little less competitive academically. I don’t know much about the music scene at those schools but I’m sure its pretty good being in large/exciting cities.

From what I have heard, NYU has pretty good parties. Moreover, I would argue that the scene in New York is going to be more diverse than Boston, and you’ll have slightly more large shows in New York than in Boston.
