Yes, since beginning
What are UIUCās usual acceptance, deferral, and rejection rates in EA?
Depends on the major. Grainger school of Engineering is like 6% and the college of education is 40% (cant remember exact numbers) they have these stats listed in their website.
Here you goā¦
I pulled the following from their website:
Grainger College of Engineering: 24.2%
Where did you get 6% from? I doubt itās that skewed by the in-state acceptances.
Thank you! I already know about this site, I wanted any specifics regarding the EA round and getting deferred. Iām international if that makes any difference.
They mentioned it at an info meeting we attended. I will see if I have pictures of the slides but we have has so much info I doubt I would find it. I remember kids in our school commenting about the extremely low acceptance rate to Grainger too and to make sure to check a second major.
Do they admit by major? If so I think even the 24.2% for grainger is not applicable to all majors since majors like CS will bring it very far down while some other less competitive majors like Industrial/Nuclear engineering will probably be much higher if they admit by major.
I met an admissions rep at my school. Unless youāre CS, youāre admitted to CoE, not a particular major.
I saw multiple posts on reddit where people filed FOIA requests and they found very different rates for every major. Here is one example Reddit - Dive into anything
That is incorrect. You are admitted to a specific major within the college of engineering at Illinois, unlike Purdue and many other engineering programs. It is possible to apply to engineering undeclared.
Thanks for clarifying I thought so too
2017 is a while ago, donāt you think?
That was just one forum but there is a large agreement that they admit by major and the reddit link I sent seems to be another proof of it (from 2022).
Things change year to year, and web pages sometimes are not updated in a timely manner. Got questions like this, just contact the authoritative source: Admissionsā¦.
To put this to rest: UIUC absolutely 100% admits by major.
On the application, they specifically ask for your 1st and 2nd preferred majorsā¦and require a 2-part short answer explanation, for each.
Yes, I know. You are evaluated for your first choice and if not admitted to that, evaluated for second choice.
Soā¦admitted by major.
What irritated us was UF, which admits holistically and doesnāt looks at major according to an admissions officer in the UF 2025 thread. I thought that not admitting by major was incorrect
