University of Maryland (UMD) College Park Early Action 2024

@SRWEQ322 My second choice was engineering and my alternate was Letters and Science. I’m in state.

Everyone who got a Spring Admission has the option of enrolling in Freshman Connection which allows you to start in the Fall and live on campus

L&S is for people who applied Undecided or did not get into their desired major

Here is the link for Freshman Connection info

https://oes.umd.edu/incoming-current-visiting-students/freshmen-connection

L&S is for limited enrollment programs only.

L&S is for students who applied Undecided or DID NOT get into their desired LEP

Right desired LEP not any desired major

L&S advisors will help students decide on a Major or do an Internal Transfer to the LEP that they want

Yep that’s true

D20 was not accepted. Based on her scores, she knew it was a reach, but nevertheless she is disappointed.

For students who were not accepted: take it from this mom, please don’t worry about how your family or others will react! No one should ever be ashamed of trying.

UMD is a great school for some, but it’s not the right fit for everyone. I won’t tell my D this, but in some ways I’m glad she didn’t get in — The school is really big, and students on the cusp could get lost academically. And I do worry about the university’s continuing mold problems and how the school has handled (or mis-handled) the situation. So we’re focusing on other bright options on DD’s horizon. I firmly believe that it’s not where you go to school, but what you put into it when you get there, that matters. ?

UMD has not yet reported STATS for the Class of 2024. It may be a couple of months for that to come out

Transfer to CS an LEP is relatively easy. There are 3 courses which makes the Gateway requirements that the student has to pass with a grade of C or better. The courses are Calc 2 , Object Oriented Prog 1 & 2. Anyone who clears the gateway requirement is allowed to transfer to CS. For students who have already cleared AP Calc BC WITH 4 OR 5 need not even have to take Calc 2 and if AP Comp science A is cleared with a 5 then Object Oriented Programmin 1 is also waived. Most students who are good in MATH are able too clear these Gateway requirements easily.
