@ITeachABitToo the “to do” list for financial aid is on UMD portal NOT coaltion. Good luck

@Nitmom ACES is one of the most selective LLP’s to get into. Decisions are final but check the webpage at UMD HONORS ACES for info on ACES Minor.

S got 50K/4 years president award. This is a huge surprise for him considering his GPA=3.6

Daughter admitted University Honors w/ Math major. Received notification of $5k/year journalism scholarship!?! Minutes later, notification of President’s Award for $48k
 Confusion followed by satisfaction!

I had a residency issue earlier in the process, but it was fixed as of February 19th. However, the financial aid portal still has a budget outlined for out of state residency. I know that residency affects certain scholarships, and I was wondering that if my financial aid would be reconsidered once my residency is the same across their entire system.

(My admission letter was updated on coalition on February 19th. It lists in state.)

Son was accepted to UMD with Honors (Materials Science Engineering) and got the President’s Scholarship of $48,000

Already admitted to OSU Honors (instate with $4K/year schol), Purdue, UIUC and Michigan State (with $31K/year Schol)

@ thentt, thank you for your reply. I can understand ACES is selective, but as you said she can do minor in ACES, being UH. Do you know how beneficial UH will be for computer science student.?

My DS20 also got a Presidential! (48K over four years)

SAT 1550, ACT 36, UW-GPA 4.0, OOS (public high school), admitted Honors & Engineering in early action round.

Congrats to all!

@Nitmom By beneficial if you mean towards a career I would say after ACES, GEMSTONE would be the best. But you really have to want to do research and it’s a lot of work. Most students say it does take time from other studies. Most of the students I know in UH chose it because there was very little extra work involved or because they did get into LL they wanted. The biggest advantage to UH is the H seminars that only honors students can take. Starting in the fall ONLY UH students will be able to register for the classes, other LL students will not but will have their own specific H classes. You can search the current topics for UH here.
( https://www.universityhonors.umd.edu/uh_20S_seminars.html ). Honors college is redoing the rules for UH this year and there will be some required classes. You will be able to find professors and students from every field.

There has been an issue of UH being a catch all for students that did not get into the selective programs. Honors College is starting to address it with these changes but it seems to me time and money would be better spent EXPANDING the popular programs instead of telling so many Honors student “you are not invited”. UMD’s yield (% of student that enroll) of accepted honors students is low partly because so many are told right after acceptance that “you can’t do the program you want”.

DS got 50K presidential over 4 years (Computer Science)

I logged in the univ financial aid portal, and it shows only one year’s amount $12.5K (2020-2021).
Is that same for everybody who got some merit scholarship?

Also, it shows an additional “Unsub Direct Loan” of $6.5K for the year 2020.21

@calcuttaboy2002 Yes the same amount will post each year if you meet the qualifications, 3.2 30 credits every year etc.

@calcuttaboy2002 You don’t have to take the loan. You will only get the loan money if you click “accept” when you submit.

If only Federal loans are listed should i assume no merit awards are coming?

Where on the portal is the LLC assignment? Is it me or is their website/portal not very user friendly?!

My daughter received an e-mail about it, but I believe it is also on Coalition.

Carillon Community assignments are supposed to be emailed today. Has anyone gotten an email yet??

Where all merit awards posted already or are they coming out at a later date ?
