University of Maryland (UMD) College Park Early Action 2024

@thentt Where is this information? on Coalition? or some other portal

@ NoVaRat Congratulation.

For those who got emails - does that merit aide also show on the financial aide portal?

@sharon23 … It is when you login to Coalition. Click on “checklist” and the Merit award is shown at the bottom. My son was awarded 2K/year, which hardly makes any dent in the cost since we are OOS. His stats were SAT 1490, 3.56/4.05 GPA and very good ECs

@FRDad - thanks

Thank you!

So, no email yet here. No note on Coalition checklist, and only loan $ listed in UMD portal. I’m guessing that’s a big no for merit. Daughter is oos with 32 ACT, 4.3 WGPA, heavy AP load yadda yadda. Guess I thought she’d at least qualify for the minimum $2000 Presidential Scholarship. Wishful thinking says maybe her notification is simply delayed… or not. Has anyone gotten an email that only lists the $5500 loan amt?

@lr1852 check your “to do list”. If they are waiting for any documents it could cause your total awards not to add up. If you qualify for loans and other money you choose what to accept and click accept at the bottom but FIRST check the TO DO LIST.

@RagingBoy Check the “To Do List”. Are they waiting for anything?

Do notifications come out in waves or all at once?

You have to sign on to UMD student portal.

It is on Coalition at the very bottom. My DC also received an email. I did not see it on the UMD portal but I do not know where to look so it might be there I just cannot confirm.

DD got an email at 3:13 PM about President’s Scholarship, instate, $32k (so $8k/year).
UPitt offered way more, so it will cost about the same going UPitt OOS or UMD.

Wow, Pitt must have offered your daughter a fantastic scholarship if it will cost the same as UMD in-state with an $8k scholarship! Congrats!

If I haven’t received an email by now does that mean I did not receive merit scholarship money?

@ChiMom191 Our D is in same position - no email at all from UMD and her portal, once we managed to get access (not simple at all), only lists the $5500 federal loan leaving a COA of over $45K direct costs only.
Net somewhat surprised if no merit award at all as will rule out UMD very quickly compared to the other colleges she has offers from - WPI, Purdue, VT, U of Delaware, UMass at Amherst, Rutgers, RIT - all with COAs between $8K and $17K less than UMD with no merit award.

LLP decision is out. check portal.
DD got in her 1st choice but not sure if she will attend.
Scholarship Term is a bit strange. DD has to take min of 30 credits per year to receive. one of the reasons why to attend UMD is able to transfer good amount of AP/IB credits and take less courses. ? Taking 15 credits per semester beats the purpose.

@NoVaRat Yes, UPitt offered $100K and invited DD to apply honors scholarship. We’ll see if they offer more.

How do I access the portal to see financial aid? Can someone post the link or something

@onelittleredfrog, from your previous posts, it looks like your daughter is interested in pursuing an MD. If that’s the case, I think you’d have a hard time turning down Pitt if the cost is about the same as UMD.

Yep, just $5500 loans on my son’s UMD portal. Nothing showing “to do” on Coalition. Uggh, no free money from UMD nor VT. Ouch.
