University Of Maryland

I am applying to UMDCP, early action and I was wondering what my chances were with these mediocre stats:

2.86 GPA UW 3.2 W
1270 SAT (Most likely Higher after october SATS)
Volleyball (Varsity) 10th, 11th (County Champs, 2002-2003)
Vice President Computer Club
Chinese Club
Fencing Club
Computer Administration Intern 10th, 11th
Paid Internship at an impressive Buisness Applications company
Did alot of film+ community work for Khmer Temple
Created a film production/editing buisness in 2003
I am Khmer (not a common asian, not sure if that helps)
Only 3 APs- Stat, Environmental Sci., Comp Prog.
The rest Honors

I know my GPA is really low, but I think My new SAT scores will help me a little. (Taking all honors probably screwed me over)
My High School is very competetive.
I am first Generation College applicant
A sister that goes to UMDCP
Good Teacher Recs

I am also applying to UMBC, George Mason, and UGW(haha)
Am I doomed?

depending if ur in/out of state...
gpa will def. bring you down, more than a high sat will bring you up
you have a good chance @ umbc

best of luck

In state btw. People from my school were accepted at UMBC with lower GPA and SATS, but I really want to go to UMDCP. I live like 10 minutes away.

well, depending on how good your essays, ec's and rec's are, you still have a chance

Anyone else run across the technical difficulties on the UMD website? So the new deadline is at least Nov. 8?

I have good essays, but what about my ecs? Are they enough? Am I a competetive applicant if I got over 1350 on mt SATs?

Other than the GPA, everything looks good. Good luck!

i have the same stats but out of state am i screwed?

My son got rejected form Univ of Maryland CP from the fall semester but did get admitted for the second semester with a 3.6 unweighted (3.7 weighted) and 1200 SATs in high school. I would think that with a 3.2 weighted, you will get admitted for the second semester only. Sorry

Thanks for your replies, I just hope doing well on my last SATs will boost my chances a little. Any other input would be much appreciated.

GPA is kinda low for CP, but hopefully good essays, EC"s and SAT's may compensate for that! My problem is have low SAT's but really high GPA..also applying to CP

I hate the fact that doing really good in regular is looked upon MUCH higher then doing average in Honors and AP courses. If only Colleges did not want to further themselves statistically so much...

Am I that doomed?

I guess I am

DS had a 1320 SAT (730 verbal, 590 math), with a GPA of 3.2 unweighted. He did not get accepted at Maryland (and it was the only school that was the case for). He was initially put on the waitlist, and then was rejected. He's going to Boston University with a great merit aid package. Go figure.
