Regarding internships, UMass Amherst has its own satellite campus in Newton. Great location near the city and they run buses or vans to T (public train/bus) locations. This was Mt. Ida Colleges campus until they closed back in 2018 and it was purchased by the flagship campus:

That is good to hear. My oldest is a Sophomore at Wisconsin, we are also in state for UMass, son that got waitlisted for CS is waiting on Wisconsin. Hopefully he will have better luck there!
Good luck to your son!
My daughter is an animal science major as well. Has your daughter tried Colorado State University or Oregon State University? They have both a great reputation for animal science, hands-on experiences. The acceptance rates are quite high. You should check to see if they have rolling admissions.
Oregon State has Feb 1st as a deadline. So still able to apply.
What hotel is good for the accepted students visit?
pretty sure thereās a sizable hotel on-campus, right above the main dining areas!
My son got accepted for Computer Science in the Manning College of Information & Computer Sciences.
- International student/ Asia.
- SAT 1580 superscore (780 RW/800 M)
- IB GPA: 44/45
- ECAs mostly focusing CS and education
Merit based scholarship: $16k.
You can stay right on campus at Hotel UMass. Other options are in Hadley which is the town next door.

I remember when we toured, they made the nursing program extremely hard to get into. Canāt believe so few state schools in CA offer nursing. WOW! These are career paths we keep hearing about being a big need for more people; one would think some of the schools might consider expanding on these programs to admit more students. One can dream, I guess! Good luck to your daughter!
Thanks for the suggestions! She doesnāt want to go to school across the country, preferred to stay in the Northeast/East Coast which is part of the problem because the schools in this region are just too damm competitive these days.
@wondertwins have heard the problem is that programs canāt expand without finding experienced nursing instructors.

We did an in person visit in the fall
If she doesnāt get into our state flagship, (which is a long shot) this is likely to be her #2 choice. For those who have done the prospective student tour, is there a reason to do admitted students day? Wondering how much different it will be.
Also - do we know if housing is in adequate supply? I am hearing that for other schools you want to commit ASAP to have a chance at decent housing. I didnāt get that impression when we toured UMass but wondered.
One more Q! Anyone else apply to UConn and holding out for that decision? They only had RD this year and March feels like a very long wait!
I havenāt heard any concerns with freshmen getting housing, or getting inadequate housing because they signed up later. The complaints I have heard were about either upperclassmen not being able to get housing, or freshmen being in forced quads or triples (but not because they signed up later). I am hoping the housing issues have lessened as the COVID uncertainties have subsided.
Any recommendations on hotel close to campus and town, for a mid March visit? Weāve never visited the campus. Thank you!
Probably your most convenient choice.
Sometimes a universityās hotels offer a group discount code for admitted students. Unsure about UMass. Worth asking!

Just curious to know to know how is the regular tour different from admitted students day? Is it really worth attending admitted students day? We have to com all the way from Midwest and most of admitted students days are on regular weekends. Weāre planning for a spring break visit and thereās no admitted students day during that time.
