University of Massachusetts Amherst Early Action for Fall 2024 Admissions

The one difference may be that you get to meet with your major on Destination Days. If you do a regular tour, you can ask the department if they can meet with you. Otherwise, there should not be much of a difference.

Did you look at the schedule for the destination days? They have a lot of informational sessions on different topics. You can probably get that information in other ways, but it is all nicely organized on the destination day.

@MAmomto4 , I know but we have to drive all the way just for a weekend on normal weekends. She will have spring break soon so trying to understand if it’s worth the effort or can plan leisurely during the break.

BTW, I just checked the website and I only see 2 dates now. I remember seeing some in March and April too. Can anyone provide me the correct link?

Destination Days: Schedule & Info : UMass Amherst.

Thank you! Will look at it again.

The tour isn’t that different at all.

@Shelleybeantown , this link is not working

In case you haven’t found this page, UMass is offering other visit days for those who can’t attend Destination Days. Some schools and colleges are offering special programming on those days too. UMass is also offering virtual events. Scroll down to read about all of the options. Here is the link:

We’re coming from West coast and can’t make an admitted student day timing work. We’re signed up for a regular admission tour. However, we also reached out to the dept of my D24s major (animal science) and they offered an personal ambassador tour, which is really awesome.

planning on attending destination days for cns—anyone know if they let you tour a lab during the major-specific info session or how i would go about setting that up? thanks!

From our Destination days attendance a couple of years ago with S22 (Industrial Engineering), I recall that they split the kids from the parents and current students took them on a department tour, which included some labs. If you are interested in a more detailed tour of labs, you should contact the department to visit during a weekday.

Because Destination Days are on weekends, I don’t know if they’ll be able to offer individual lab tours.

Ohh
did your son end up attending? My son is in for Industrial Engineering, and he is eager to learn what current students think about the program.

oh nice that sounds great! thanks for the info

After getting his acceptances, my S22 wanted to go to a different part of the country. He ended up joining Iowa State and loves it there.

Did you took a tour or visited U Mass? Showed demonstrated interest

In researching UMass Amherst, seems they had a pretty severe housing shortage in recent years. Is this resolved now, or still a concern where 3 kids are put into a double, for example? We are visiting on Feb 25th so want to ensure we explore any red flag questions when on campus.

My son is a sophomore. Last year he and a decent portion of his dorm were in “forced” triples. It was tight but they made it work. They were in rooms that were a bit larger (Z rooms) than a traditional square rooms in his particular dorm. This year he is living off campus but many of his friends still are on campus and all of them except a few had no issues getting housing in the area they wanted to. They are all heading off campus next year. It seemed to be no different than what I am hearing about many schools in terms of difficulty with housing.

there have been some past issues. last year 120 transfer students were forced to live at an Econo Lodge a few miles away. And, they did that before, too when they over enrolled a couple years prior. Gets complicated when needing transportation to campus, and meal plans/access to dining halls, etc. Def worth asking.
