University of Miami class of 2022

@dreamchaser2k18 hey sorry but I remember you helping a lot of people on this forum and being helpful so I was just wondering if you got in

Yes! I was accepted into the beautiful University of Miami!!! A lot of people said that I wouldn’t make it in because of my “low sat score” (Math section) both I and my guidance counselor were shocked when we found out. And I’m definitely attending, I’m satisfied with my FA. Despite my non-competitive marks, I only have to pay a couple grand a semester. Lmao I’ll take that!
Here are my stats again btw:
Sat score: 1230 (650 in CR/580 on Math)
Gpa: UW GPA 4.0
Majors: Broadcast Journalism (SOC)
Bunch of ec’s (Not gonna type it, if you wanna know them in detail look at my post from very early on.)
Amazing Essay. I’m pretty sure that NO ONE in that applicant pool has the same essay as me. By no means was it generic, I’m pretty sure that’s what singled me out by the AO’s and granted me admission tbh… Anyways, I am DEFINITELY attending and I can’t wait to get involved at the UM :x
Thanks for remembering me @user1432

Btw I was also accepted to 16 other colleges so far (Including UMiami). I’m not gonna name them all but here’s a few: University of Tampa, University of Central Florida, Emerson College, Stony Brook University (accepted today lmao). Howard University Temple University, Hofstra University and mannnnnnny more.

Forgot to mention that I got an SAT essay score of: 7/8/7
And I am ranked in the Top 2% of my HS. (Currently in the running to become salutatorian)

For future students: if one part of you Application is weak, work endlessly to enhance your strengths! Especially in your college essay, that is ur final pitch. Don’t listen to anyone’ doubts Bc if I could make it and receive ALOT of FA, even tho my stats are not high enough, then anything is possible. So happy to get accepted into my reach and dream school!!! Good luck to all! #UMiami22

@dreamchaser2k18 congrats. Where will you most likely attend? Howard offers fantastic merit $. Family is from Philly and know the Temple campus. Have you visited?

While I received an invitation to scholarship weekend for the Stamps Scholarship, the Isaac Bashevis Singer Scholarship, and the Marta S. and L. Austin Weeks Endowed Scholarships couple of weeks ago and thus knew of my acceptance earlier, I didn’t receive my official acceptance letter until yesterday. In the portal, I had:
-An official acceptance letter to the School of Nursing as a Public Health Major (first choice)
-A 28K a year (112K total) Presidents Scholarship
-A notification that I was missing my tax return and W-2 forms and that I needed to submit them to be considered for need based scholarships
-An invitation to apply for the Lead Miami Student Employment Program

Congrats to everyone accepted!

@dreamchaser2k18 Warmest Congrats— that’s fantastic!!! I too was wondering about you since you posted so much and were enthusiastic about UM. Best of luck!!

Anyone going to future cane day in February? Only saw on website did anyone get an email about it?

I was talking to someone and they made a really good point about the merit aid. They only have a certain amount they can give out to the group, so they probably didn’t give any to students they don’t think will enroll. Looking through this thread a lot of 1500 SAT and 35 ACT didn’t get any so it makes sense

I am going to UMiami, this is my dream school and reach school. Like I said I only have to pay a couple grand every semester which is a GREAT deal. I’m thankful I got into a bunch of other colleges but my heart is at the University of Miami. @camcam2022 @IndoBurma

@kd6410 I believe you hit the nail on the head, sadly this seems to be consistent with results posted. It makes no sense and is really a shame for those kids who have worked very hard to distinguish themselves as top tier, only to be admitted but basically rejected with no merit award. How the schools can “determine” who they think will attend is crazy, the 1560 SAT may really really want to attend UM but if UM thinks their stats are too high and thus feels that person will probably go to an Ivy league they won’t grand merit aid. It is not a good system because in doing this they have basically admitted a whole group of very qualified students who may have chosen to go to UM, but now will not be able to due to lack of merit aid. Merit aid should be given for merit not based on who the school "thinks might attend’. The school has absolutely no insight really into what school is a certain student wants to attend. They should offer merit based on Stats, and if those with high stats who are offered merit choose not to attend, they can offer that merit money to another student. Several schools that offer merit require that you choose to accept the merit , decline the merit, or extend the offer within a months time. This allows them to offer the merit that is declined to other students.

DId u get accepted? And did u receive a lot of aid? @Kd6410

That idea seems wrong in 2018 with modern data analytics. Miami knows exactly what perecentage of 35 ACT kids will accept their offer.

@jerseyparents they most probably know what percentage of kids with high stats will accept, however they do not know exactly which of those kids are the ones who will accept. If they feel that x% of 35 ACT kids will accept the offer so they give X % of 35 ACT kids merit money, those kids to whom they gave merit money may not be the same kids who will actually accept the offer. The remaining 35 ACT kids who were accepted but didn’t get merit money may be the exact ones who would have accepted the offer, but sadly didn’t get that option, so now those kids may not be able to attend.

have any international students received their letters in the mail yet?

Is the financial aid they already sent us the only aid we are getting?

@dreamchaser2k18 I got in but I didn’t apply for FA. And I got no merit aid unfortunately. I will still consider it for sure, but Tulane gave me 27K a year. I’m going to see what UM has to offer and ask if there is any opportunity for merit scholarships after the first year (I know some schools do this). And congrats on getting in!

@dreamchaser2k18 I told you I thought you had a great chance! Who was it that thought you didn’t have a chance because of your SAT…was that Kd6410? I can’t remember. My son got in but we like a few of our other offers better. Good Luck!

I think this is probably a stupid question but why so many of you mention Tulane?? Is it just because it is another great school or its proximity to florida that all of you have applied there too??

@EDHDAD I never said that @dreamchaser2k18 didn’t have a good enough SAT. I didn’t even know what her SAT score was before today. There a fake user who said he had a 1000 SAT and to him I said he probably wouldn’t get in.

Lol, thank you for rooting and advocating for me on my behalf @EDHDAD I remember what you would say, and it wasn’t one person that doubted me it was ALOT of people… Even at school. My acceptance and strong scholarships proves that no one can truly understand the mind of an Admissions Officer. Just Bc u have a 1600 and a 4.0 gpa doesn’t guarantee u a seat. UMiami looks at EVERYONE to build up their freshman profile, wether it’s academically or socially. Whatever Miami was looking for, I guess they saw it in me.
