University of Miami class of 2022

It already arrived. I got mine a few days ago and I live in NYC. @go2college2018

Wow. I live about 1/2 an hour away and I still haven’t received anything.

@GoToCollege2018 ours didn’t arrive yet (NYC area) Our daughter was also admitted to FSU two weeks ago and we haven’t received that package, either…

@Mikemargo11 Yeah I got into the business school with a scholarship

Did u guys notice that UM admissions is very involved this year? Like they have a high social media presence and let students take over and answer questions… I wish they did things like this earlier in my high shool career tbh so I can feel more connected and less stressed out. Oh well at least I made it through. Lol

We live on the Space Coast of Florida and my D18 received her physical package today.

no package received yet in VA

Sons Packet arrived in mail today (NJ)

I am an international student from Russia and I received my letter on Wednesday ( 02/07).

I’ve read almost every comment here and I am really surprised that people with amazing SAT results and high gpa are waitlisted/deferred/have a small scholarship or no financial aid at all. How could it be?

Grades aren’t everything, u have to be more and have a lot more to contribute to UM then just numbers @brookstonebrige

@brookstonebrige My guess is that they only have a certain amount of merit aid to give out and they only gave it to students they think will attend. They’re making the assumption that high stats students will get in somewhere else and they applied to UM as a “safety” (though UM shouldn’t be a safety for anyone).

@brookstonebrige I think Kd6410 hit the nail on the head- many applicants who were accepted with high stats (not jsut high SAT and ACT scores- but also high GPA, hard class rigor, high class rank, lots of ECs, leadership, volunteer work, great LORs, and great essays) did not receive merit aid- which definitely makes it seem like Miami tried to place bets on who they think would go there and who they think is prob more interested in another school. It is very unfortunate that they did that because they have no basis whatsoever to make that decision. A student with a 1500 SAT and 4.7 GPA may be able to get into lots of great school in addition to Miami, but maybe they really want to go to Miami-how anyone can look at applications and decide that student doesn’t have Miami as first choice baffles me. I really feel for all of the very qualified applicants who did not receive merit money because I have read posts from so many who definitely deserved merit money in light of stats from some others who did receive it.

But people with 1500s don’t typically go there, usually those kids aim for Yale, Stanford, etc. UM is an elite school don’t get me wrong, but I don’t think that they reached that caliber just yet. Maybe in a few years they will. But generally speaking most ppl with 1200-1400 actually commit to UM. Anything higher than that, is seen as taking up seats while they wait for UNC or Duke to send them their acceptance letter… I don’t blame UMiami for using past trends to make their decisions and give out merit. Someone with a 1230 like me (and hopefully a full ride after the interview) would definitely commit without a second thought. Can’t say the same thing for a 1500 person who maybe be easily qualified to get into Yale. @mom2nnd @brookstonebrige @Kd6410

@dreamchaser2k18 I don’t think you could possibly pretend to know where someone with a 1500 SAT wants to go college. Maybe they love warm weather and palm trees, maybe they never applied to Duke or Yale because they have no interest in going there. Your argument is not even close to logical.

I’m speaking based off of trends and past behavior that’s been happening for years. People with those scores usually don’t commit. It’s a logical argument otherwise you would’nt have speculated that to begin with. It’s not just UMiami that does this, but other school deny students with high scores Bc they feel they’re a safety to bigger schools like Stanford, etc. That’s been happening for years, relax. It doesn’t matter if “they love palm trees” that has nothing to do with admissions, if kids like that with 1500s rejected UM in the past, the trend is most likely to continue. There’s a positive correlation @Mom2NND

Obviously there is more than just stats to consider in an application: ECs, essays, ethnicity, demographics, LOR, work experience…that we can’t see on CC. The U can ‘award’ their ‘merit/scholarship’ money any way they wish. If they truly did make assumptions with these high stat applicants, they may have shot themselves in the foot. I’m certain some high stat kids with the U as their top choice (even with SATs over 1400) CAN’T attend without merit $ and in that case both the U and the student miss out.

My D package arrived today.

Holistic approach…a person is so much more than grades and test scores.

Has anyone heard about ED II notifications and when they will be?
