@BrKmNk What does it say on your letter? Is it a scholarship or financial aid award? Does it just give an amount and nothing else?
Title: 2018 - 2019 Financial Aid Award
SubTitles: ESTIMATED COST OF ATTENDANCE////ESTIMATED FAMILY CONTRIBUTION////SOURCES OF ASSISTANCE @jpjfnj
@BrKmNk Did you get a letter in your message center at all? I got a letter with my scholarship and another letter with my financial aid and estimated cost per year? Check to see if you have that if not definitely call. You don’t want to find out after one year that all your awards are gone and now you have to come up with 68k
@smac22 uw: 3.85 w/ a hard schedule and 34 ACT, i called them and they told me only 30 kids out of 800 got accepted and some got waitlisted.
My son got into Miami BioChemistry and Nutrition Science. I am wondering what are the prospects of him transfering to Miller School of Medicine down the road. He is not looking to transfer but, I am just curious. Does anyone know?
@cantbelieveNJ my d accepted to BioChem and nutrition science too. Hoping the professors are good!
@redwingz123 Thanks, thats encouraging! I may call to see if they are planning to send more detailed information or who we could talk to about how the program really works, the information online is a little general.
@smac22 @redwingz123 @tjay2000
Hi my daughter also got into the HPM program. She said to go on the fb page for admitted students, there is a post about HPM. We were at Miami this week and met Professor Gaines who is in charge of the program…he is wonderful and the program sounds incredible.
Congrats!!!
Hey guys another question, are we all automatically signed up for the orientation in August? Since on my Canelink, it says registration for the orientation for Fall 2018 is now over, however on the UM website it says it is mandatory.
@BrKmNk The expired link was for the last orientation. I spoke with the orientation office and was advised that there will be a link to sign up for orientation after May 1 for Fall 2018 freshmen.
@AcademiaSavvy I believe that you should visit everything!I have visited Cane for a day, which is an awesome event where you have a few classes and a lunch.Admitted Students Info session also gives you a lot of information about academics and the process + campus tour. And Future Cane day-I have no idea what that is, but I am attending it on Sunday!
Has anyone received a Foote Fellows Honors Program Invitation?I have received an e-mail invitation about an hour ago. I have been reading about this program since that time, but I dont really understand the idea.We have a priority for an early move-in, right? And we can choose not to take required subjects if we don
t want?
@brookstonebrige Being a Foote Fellow offers some perks like early move-in, special advisers, and the freedom to not have to take the cognates. The beauty of not being required to fulfill the cognates is that a student can more easily double major, etc.
@brookstonebrige my D is a Foote Fellow and it definitely has its advantages! Every school has different requirements for their Foote Fellows so you should check with your specific major, but all Foote Fellows are exempt form the cognates which as @sdteak said really frees you up to pursue double majors or more than one minor.
@smac22 @redwingz123 If we visit campus together we may be able to figure out more details! What do you think? I looked on fb but did not find the post @Scrunchie1 mentioned earlier.
If my D got accepted and scholarships of 36K will we have to borrow the other 30K for her to attend? My EFC is 1K so, I’m not sure how this works. First in the fam to attend college.
@tjay2000 we have a groupme searh the word “hpm” on the facebook you’ll find it
@tjay2000 unfortunately I can’t attend the admitted student day. I will let you know if I get any information.
@ofaragon , the parents would have to borrow the $30,000 or otherwise come up with the money. The student cannot borrow that much in her name. But with an EFC of $1000, you should appeal to UM FA office asap for more money. Also make sure to check the FA award in your CaneLink portal to see if it has changed or if you’ve missed anything.
@vistajay how do you appeal financial aid?
