University of Miami Class of 2023

Tre what happened with Nova?

@tdiemer tre what happened with Nova?

Yay for your son! I’m curious how he found out. My daughter has a 34 ACT, all As, top 5% of 575, 12 APs, all state tennis, over 600 volunteer hours, passed all AP exams, leadership in various honors clubs, etc. and her brother (my son) is a sophomore at U of Miami. I really thought she would be in contention for a scholarship there, but we haven’t heard anything at all. My son has several friends with lower stats than my daughter who have great scholarships and and are Foote Fellows. Did you get an email or did it show up on Cane Link? It’s disappointing to not be offered any scholarship at all at UM when she has good offers elsewhere. We were hoping our kids would be at the same school.

@tdiemer make sure your UM admission counselor knows that UM is your first choice. My son is a sophomore at UM and he made it clear to his admission counselor that UM was his first choice. I think he actually wrote to her that he bleeds orange and green. He got in with a 4.3 GPA and 28 ACT (which is about the same as 1330 SAT). He had a ton of extracurriculars, but it sounds like you do too. If you also mention that you are a preferred walk-on, that should also help. I thought PWOs were automatically accepted at colleges, but I don’t know how that works. My daughter is a senior and has a couple of friends that are PWOs to other schools and we assumed that meant they were in. UM wants kids who want them, and you obviously have incentive to attend. Good luck to you. My son loves it there.

@tdiemer I hope you get in man. I’m a huge Cane fan. Looking forward to following you.

did anybody here apply ED 2?

Has anyone who got in for ed1 recieved their financial aid package?

Anecdotally, my son was hounded for financial aid documents from Villanova right up until the day he was denied.

@tmeg01 He received an email telling him to check his portal. There were directions for him to submit another essay based on a prompt.

Hoping they liked his response!

@ufalumn1997 Good luck to your son! My son LOVES the U - it’s like a vacation destination. I just wish it didn’t cost like one.

I just noticed on our To Do list that financial aid says they don’t have our noncustodial parent css profile. We submitted that back in October! I emailed a screenshot of it but hopefully it won’t be a problem - they said it was due 1/9, yet they never sent an email about it. I hope it’s not considered ā€œlateā€ even though we sent it months ago! I am worried that our aid will be affected because of the mix up.

Can someone give an approximation of my chances at getting accepted?

They notify through CaneLink, the big question is when will they do that?

Back in November, I emailed my counselor because my app status still said incomplete (I applied EA). She said in these exact words: Thank you for contacting the University of Miami. The application will be incomplete until a decision is made. If there are any outstanding documents, they will be listed on your ā€˜To Do List’ in the Canelink Student Center. Thank you and Go 'Canes! Also, I heard only from 1 person (not in admissions) that if you go to campus finances in canelink, and it says under accept/decline that award access not available, and under view financial aid it says inquiry access denied, that it means you were probably accepted. This is one person so I am not saying that you are accepted if that is what you see but it is what I have heard. Anyways, sorry for the long message lol I am just trying to help, I really hope decisions come out this friday (25th)!

Are you sure not everyone has this?

no, I heard its a good thing if it says award access not available because the award access might become available once decisions come out. The fact that it says award access not available implies that there is an award and there would not be an award if you were deferred or denied.

I am not sure at all I just heard this from someone (not in admissions)

@lesimpson520 ??? I thought everyone’s said that?

I’m not sure everyone’s portal may all say it, I’m just repeating what someone told me, they may be wrong
