University of Miami Class of 2023

Has anyone heard anything about premier scholarships?

Yes.
I received the Singer Scholarship. (No interview, they just sent it to me 20 minutes after my admission letter in the portal. Maybe they changed their policy this year.)
Wrote the Essay at the end of December.
1540 SAT and 4.0 UW GPA.

merit aid for me did not come with my acceptance, so I called and they told me my EFC was too high
What BS, there is no way merit a should be attached to financials, I have a 33 ACT and 4.24 WGPA, and over 600 volunteer hours, and people with even just lower stats were receiving Presidential scholarship!!!?? Ridiculous, I cannot and will not pay $70k a year!!

Not to sound rude, but looking at some numbers of
People deferred vs ones who got in I’m floored.

If you received a scholarship that isn’t one of the premier scholarships, is it possible to still receive a premier scholarship later?

if i havent gotten a merit scholarship letter it means i pretty much dont have any right? well that sucks i cant afford goling to um and its my top school

I’m just curious what a high efc would be? What’s the efc cut off at UM? I can’t believe all the students getting in with lowerstats with scholarship money and kids with high stats getting deferred, truly amazes me!

@iwl0119, last year the Presidential Scholarship letter came out around 5:30pm along with a 3rd notification outlining all the costs of attending and listing all the aid being offered, both merit and need-based.

@SAD1010, How do you know you didn’t get any merit?

People asking about merit. Before my letter was posted there was a thing in my financial aid tab. I just had to select for the 2019 2020 year, it was showing this year. And it was merit, not financial aid.

@ikonwxrld, don’t assume you didn’t get merit until you see the notification letter that tells you the cost of attending and any financial aid you are being offered (both merit and need-based). If there is no Presidential Scholarship listed on that letter, then you didn’t get it. But until you get that, there is no way of knowing. It’s entirely possible the letters for Presidential scholarship didn’t come out yet. It’s a GREAT school, but their admissions office seems to be completely disorganized with regard to releasing information related to acceptance.

@noah2425 it’s such a bummer, the math is such that full pay students indirectly fund scholarships for others. It’s as good as a no for us, as we can’t afford $71k :frowning:

Accepted with the Presidential Scholarship for 23k!
UW: 4.0 W: 4.56
ACT: 34
Extracurriculars: Member of several clubs, Editor-in-Chief of yearbook, Executive Board Member for Charity Organization, worked on two campaigns while having a part-time job, member of performing arts groups, 100+ volunteer hours.

@mom2teens i got my financial aid letter and it didnt include any merit so i guess that means i didnt get any merit. i thought they would send me a letter telling me i didnt qualify for merit lol

@mom2teens. nothing is listed on cane link

Rejected, kind of a bummer, and disappointing. A friend was accepted ED with lower stats, but couldn’t commit without knowing merit

accepted with 23k president’s scholarship and large coral grant!! I was really surprised I got my FA today considering I had issues with my tax documents. also fafsa added 1300 dollars to my EFC today so that worried me as well. glad it all worked out!

4.0/4.0 UW GPA (school doesn’t weight)
1520 SAT
13 APs (6 this year)
lots of ECs (mix of leadership roles, 2 sports year round, and working with children) and strong teacher recc.

also just putting this out there: demonstrated interest is not a factor in UM admissions. the only true interest they would take into account would be applying ED. I never had the opportunity to tour and I was still accepted.

Official notification came today. D Received Singers scholarship which covers full tuition. Invited to the Scholarship weekend in March. Extremely happy and blessed.

My daughter was accepted, which is awesome, but our financial aid letter only included $1,500/semester of federal unsubsidized loans. No way we can justify sending her to the U for $70K/year when she can go to UGA or possibly Georgia Tech (she was deferred at Tech) for free tuition (we live in Georgia). U of Miami is her #1 choice, but it just doesn’t make sense for us to pay the full price tag!

@SAD1010, you need to wait and see the Financial Aid letter which details all the costs and aid being offered - both merit and need based. That’s the only way to know for sure if there is any Presidential award. If you didn’t get that letter yet, it’s possible you may still get merit.
