University of Miami Class of 2023

son was accepted despite not getting any email notification lol. He got a canes achievement award. 10k a year. :slight_smile:

How were u notified about singer. @jabsmom10

Why I did not see my EA application decision on canelink? I’m an international student. Anyone experiencing the same thing?

@cbs1211 she logged in and the letter was in her messages.

So there was a letter devoted solely to the scholarship weekend? Where was the weekend mentioned.

@jabsmom10 ^^

Decision: DIFFERED (Business)

33 ACT (taken once)
-35 ENG
-34 MATH
-30 READ
-34 SCI
-9 ESSAY (optional)

3.6 UW/3.8 W GPA (I have a legitimate reason explaining low GPA)

Great EC’s and Essay

I attend an elite private school on the east coast and I am a white male

I don’t want to sound rude but based on some stats I am seeing I am a bit surprised I was differed

@cbs1211 in the messages it listed her admissions decision, then financial aid notification and it was notated in the letter telling her about the scholarship, the Foote Fellows and the weekend which March 1. The financial breakdown is under a separate tab. That lists the total costs breakdown. We are responsible for fees, room and board, personal and transportation.

@kit4kat it doesn’t appear there’s a cutoff. UMiami re-evaluates your fafsa and assigns a new EFC as per the financial aid office told me. My new one in their system was over $190,000 which is almost triple what my actual EFC is, and this apparently is why I didn’t receive merit aid (EVEN THOUGH MERIT AID IS LITERALLY MERIT NOT FINANCIAL BASED). It’s a completely rigged system they have at the school it seems

so a few singer
any other premier notifications?

@noah2425 they said that you couldn’t get merit scholarships because you could afford to pay yourself? That cannot be true as I called them today and they said financial aid is completely separate from merit scholarships. Those are handled by admissions.

Hi! I got in, but my FA still says “inquiry access denied.” Does anyone else still have this? Also, if the scholarship is not mentioned in the decision letter, does it mean that I didn’t get any scholarship? Just curious because I thought that my stats were enough to get one of them:) btw I have a 3.92 GPA, 1450 SAT! Congrats to those who got in;)

@student1151 that’s what I thought, even the officer I spoke to was surprised given my stats

What’s the point of doing the fafsa if they change your efc. That’s crazy. Yes merit is completely separate from need based aid.

@noah2425 your EFC was $190,000/year or $19,000/year or $190,000 for 4 years?

@Yeollingirl12, last year the Presidential Award came in a separate letter than the Decision letter and there was also a 3rd letter detailing the costs of attending and any financial aid you are being offered both merit and need based. So until you get that letter, you won’t know for sure if the Presidential award letter may still be coming.

@raej3west opposite here - son deferred from Tulane and accepted with a scholarship to Miami. Go figure. Got into UNC Honors too. These things are a total crap shoot.

@nic00 $190,000 a year which is astronomical compared to my actual FAFSA (not disclosing it but yeah)

@sloan4167 yes my son got accepted to UT business school and waiting on a decision from the business honors program
no money though

@noah that has to be a mistake! That is more than the cost of attendance for the year. I would call again and speak to someone else in the financial department.
