University of Miami Class of 2028 Official Thread

He’s now a sophomore, and loving it - has tons of friends - there are a lot of kids who do spring admit…congratulations!

Thanks for the feedback. The cost is scaring us a bit.

Yes, it is very expensive, and the cost of living around campus and in Miami is expensive as well. My son lives off-campus and his rent is ridiculous. Thankfully, my daughter was deferred and decided to go somewhere else, lol.

My daughter was accepted regular decision with presidential scholarship. Hope her stats help others:

OOS student
1460 SAT
3.97 unweighted GPA
4 APs, but her private school doesn’t offer many APs
She lacked traditional extra-curricular and leadership activities, but had significant experience in marine science, including an internship, research projects, etc. that are particular to her intended field of study.
She also had demonstrated interest, including campus tour.

I think they’re supposed to. However, I’m working with a student who did not get a decision today after being deferred in January. Wondering why.

Anyone in the same boat? Thoughts/confirmation would be appreciated.

That’s interesting. How do you know U Miami heavily weighs demonstrated interest? When we visited, they told us it was not a thing they tracked.

My son just got a spring admit for business school for spring admissions. Do you know if there is a Fall study abroad option available?

i go to a school with a really experienced college counseling team who has worked with a lot of the admissions professionals at these schools, and one of the schools they know best is UMiami. UMiami has weighted demonstrated interest pretty highly compared to other schools.

But also UMiami is a school where the time you apply matters more. For example, applying ED1 or 2 will give you a higher chance than somebody with way better stats who is applying RD! I hope that helps  and good luck!

where can you check if you got money?

My son as well. Looking for options also.

There will be other links below your acceptance letter for merit and/or awards.

My son was a Spring admit 2 years ago and he took general ed courses in a non-degree program at our local community college. All of his credits transferred in. There was an international studies offered and all of those credits automatically transfer in.

Hi - fall semester in Rome. Look on UM website under spring admit, you’ll find it there. You’re considered full time UM students, all credits transfer over but are not counted in your GPA.

Anyone know how many spring admits there typically are?

I spoke with admissions today and they said approximately 2200 get accepted for spring admission. This is much higher than I thought. I want to call again to confirm. They don’t have exact numbers for this year but this is based on previous years.

Actually can that be right? I think total class size is around 3000 or a little more, maybe they meant 2200 is what they accepted for RD this spring

Common dataset says about 9,000 admitted and 2,200 enrolled.

If 9,000 total admissions, then maybe 2,000 spring admits sounds right? I don’t know how big a group that is.

Has anyone used a service to assist with filling out financial aid paperwork? I’m trying to upload the needed forms for Miami and it’s exhausting. I’m not sure how much of my tax return paperwork they want. We have a partnership because of a rental property and I’m not sure if I need to also need that tax return paperwork also. If anyone could offer any advice it would be so appreciated! Thx!

Miami’s Financial Aid office I’m sure will be able to direct you. Good luck!:four_leaf_clover::four_leaf_clover::four_leaf_clover:
