University of Miami Class of 2028 Official Thread

Do you happen to know how greek rush and pledging works for spring admits? I know there is a 12 earned credit hour requirement, but do the greek orgs have both spring and fall pledge classes?

Anybody get off the waitlist at Frost?

View the grid of what the Miami considers important in its admissions criteria via the “Common Data Set” for Univ. Miami. Demonstrated interest is a component. It seems to be at other similar near top tier schools which have lower yields as many apply as their back up school. Although its hard to view Miami as a backup with the stats of many of the admits today.

My D attended several virtual sessions, had stellar academics and extracurriculars plus legacy. We hit everything we could and she was admitted with a scholarship. One can always transfer. If you’re mid to high need, Miami started meeting 100% financial need 4 years ago.

Although it doesn’t say in the freshman class profile:

I believe the total freshman class size (enrollment) is 2,500. I imagine the vast majority are admitted for the fall semester. When I attended decades ago, I don’t think they offered a spring option.

Miami’s Spring enrollment website:

implies a small / very small number of Spring students by stating, “a select number of students.” It also states, “students offered admission in the spring typically do not qualify for scholarships.” They do seem to qualify for financial aid.

One can’t speak to admissions officers directly. When I call admissions, I’m unsure if I’m connected to a call center or admins. Hence, I highly doubt the high spring enrollment numbers you were told.

After anguishing thought, my D just declined for the top ivy where the need based financial package is a bit better than UM’s as it counted my kids in grad school. Hopefully, this allows 1 more to come off the Miami waitlist. Good luck to all!

I thought the waitlist only starts once the enrollment deadline is passed? Anyone else heard back for any college in U miami?

My daughter received a call yesterday - she was accepted off the waitlist yesterday.

Sometimes colleges are calling to “talk” before they offer if they are still in yield protecting mode.

“A spot may be opening”
“If you received an email offering a spot would you accept it.”

They want to know you are interested. And they want a quick turn around on the acceptance.

they called and asked if she was interested and if she committed somewhere yet. Of course she did it was May 1st. She asked them to send over package. They gave nothing so she is sticking to her choice. Basically 3 years of college would have been 1 year at Miami for cost. Best of luck to everybody!

Frost is my daughter’s top choice. She’s waitlisted.

There is hope for those still waiting on the waitlist. It is moving however they are still in yield protection mode. My son received the following email from admissions yesterday:

I hope you are doing well! I am reaching out to you today with news about the University of Miami’s waitlist. You responded to our waitlist offer indicating that you would like to be contacted should Miami admit students from the waitlist. We are prepared to offer you admission to the University of Miami, so I wanted to check in with you to know if you are still interested in attending, or if you have already made alternate plans. I would appreciate you reaching out to me once you have consulted with your parents, guardians, and/or family members. Please reply to this email or contact me via phone by Thursday, June 6th at 5 PM EST to let me know either way.

**Note: This is not a binding offer of admission. Should you accept your spot from the waitlist, you will then have 5 days to submit your $500 non-refundable enrollment deposit, which ultimately gets credited to your first bill. Once your enrollment deposit has been received, you will then be granted the opportunity to apply for on-campus housing.

Interesting. What’s your major?

Crafty wordsmithing for a not yet offer-offer. Did any financial aid package populate in the portal or is your family full pay?

Thanks

Got offered spring admit today off the waitlist. Anyone else?
