lol the UM admission office closes @5pm. I would honestly say that if decisions aren’t released by 5pm EST, it will not be today unfortunately
they’re out !!!
My Daughter made it
So did S24! He’s over the moon.
Deep breath! No matter what happens, you will find your path. This is from a mom who went through ED with her first child . And good luck!!!
i got deferred any chance i make it you think?
i have a 3.8 gpa i’m captain of my soccer team and had so many extracurricular and community service. in not sure what is weighting me down. do you think my parents divorce has anything to do with it?
They will review your application again soon so you’ll have a chance! Don’t worry! And no, your parent’s divorce had no impact
It is extremely hard to make it into the ED round. My son got deferred in 2022 and got in eventually. Just have patience and faith. This is a process that takes some time. My daughter got deferred tonight as well. Better than a rejection. In the meantime, visit other schools and get excited about other options. You will land where you’re meant to be
Sounds like a lot of deferrals this year. Good luck to everyone.
I am shocked by the number of deferrals in an EDI round. Did not see this coming because there are always very strong applicants during EA who just cannot commit ED. It was my understanding that historically the U admit rate from ED was @ 60%.
Just curious, what is the source of your opinion? Not many posts here.
Facebook, reddit, zeemee and from my student who knows first hand of many who got deferred on Friday.
Hearing of a couple of deferrals ok but once it got into double digits I was surprised considering also how many often say nothing on social media before chiming in and being so transparent.
Agree CC has been the most quiet but often it’s used moreso by parents vs applicants themselves.
My daughter was admitted for the fall ED1 on Friday. No one else that she knows who applied ED was admitted. They were all deferred. She had a 3.92 UW GPA and a 4.4 W GPA, 1390 SAT. I am sure that they just had an overwhelming amount of very qualified ED1 candidates this year. With the acceptance rates dropping so quickly with UM (18.9% last cycle), combined with such an increase in ED1 applications now (it’s highly encouraged by school counselors as well as private counselors) the ED1 application pool is much larger. That is only my speculation based on what I have seen with my older children and how the process has changed over the years I have been involved in it.
As in past years, many that got deferred will get in during the regular acceptance. It’s so hard to wait when you’re anxious to hear now but don’t give up hope. Continue to show the school “continued interest”.
UMiami has been known for deferring during ED I for the last few cycles now. Similar to what Michigan does
Ok but Michigan is EA with so many apps and any binding ED pool is not nearly as big. It’s just a lot of deferrals and reddit showing many qualified students were deferred. That’s a strong guaranteed butt in seat.
I could be wrong, but I have an idea why there are so many deferrals. Again this is just what I think it may not be true at all. Everyone who I know that has been admitted ED this round has the ability to pay full tuition. The people who I know who got deferred including myself all applied for financial aid (CSS). Miami might want to admit everyone who can pay full tuition or close to full tuition in the first round of apps, then admit the people who need financial aid later on in the year in the regular decision pool. This is just an idea and something I’ve noticed, there may be many other factors that go into this. A deferral is not a rejection! Best of luck to everyone!
On S24’s Instagram I saw 4 kids I know get accepted ED - all full pay. I know one of them is a strong student, and the others are in college prep classes but not the most rigorous. I cannot believe that UM posts a $93,000 COA. That is insane.
hmmmm, the admit I know who got in was full pay too.
I know people who applied EA who are full pay but had zero interest in committing ED to UMiami. Wonder how that will play out because they are extremely strong applicants too.
now I am curious to know how many seats they filled with EDI…and how much room is actually left from EA, EDII and RD.
