University of Miami Fall 2018 Transfer

@ruizjeancarlo right? we can make friends in and out of school, don’t worry everyone(:

I do understand her point though. It’s pretty much to live the “college experience”. What better than have it on campus. Like literally on school grounds all the time.

No I get that but you’re still going to get the college experience being a commuter. Even being off campus as a full time student most of your time will be spent on school grounds.

My friend lived off campus and he made a great number of friends, so anything is possible

@itzmejessie I completely understand too, I’m just not too thrilled about living in a dorm that’s not in good shape lol, ya know??

I commuted to my other university and i’m still local for UM so I won’t be living in the dorms and trust me you meet a lot of people

How is everybody passing the time? I’ve been pretty impatient and anxious. Probably check Canelink like three times a day although decisions are a few weeks away lol.

Also, commuting/living off-campus is totally fine. Spots like Red Road Commons and Gables Ponce are practically luxury dorms with the amount of students living there. However, it’s definitely important to get involved on campus. UM has excellent Greek life if you’re into that and something like 25% of students participate. Other than that they have some great clubs as well, such as the commuter students club and category 5. It’s all about being social, you will definitely make friends if you try.

decisions are supposed to be next week @bbm217

how do you know that they are supposed to be next week??? @tatidee123

around next week last year they came out

I hope you guys get in Im not going to know my decision until. June

I wanna KNOW NOWWWWW

@ruizjeancarlo: My statement was too extreme. It’s just easier to get the college experience by living on campus and more convenient but it’s not always possible, depending on finances. UM actually has an organization for commuter students. The school is so student-oriented! https://orientation.studentaffairs.miami.edu/commuter-students/association-of-commuter-students/index.html

Perhaps my statements about the dorms were too extreme too because I don’t want to scare anyone away from the dorms. It’s just that many colleges have newer dorms, yet many state colleges still have old dorms like these. Just noting so people know what to expect. Again, it doesn’t bother my son because he loves the school otherwise. But his fastidious roommate had to move off-campus after one semester. The issue is more that it’s not updated tile, doors, or window panes (and windows don’t open), but the furniture is newer, which is most important. You can see in the video I posted earlier (although no need for a shower light, like they state). I think the most brutal part is that there isn’t much room around the toilet, so there is a shower curtain right next to your thigh. But you can close both doors and not close the curtain or just use the downstairs public restroom for serious business. Again, just know what to expect. Even University Village (part of UM) is 12m from campus and people live there, so not all off-campus housing is far away.

@byrd26 why not until JUNE???

Hi guys! I’ve been MIA but no word yet.
My app was completed as of January 31st but I submitted my common app as of OCTOBER!
Then as you know, there was hiccup in my application due to their mistake and they deemed it complete again on March 9th which is absurd considering how long I’ve been preparing for this.
I hope that my decision comes out along with all of yours… good luck guys! I’m so anxious considering I’ve been working on this since October :frowning:

My stats:
High school cumulative avg: 90 %,
26 on ACT

GPA: 3.56 for first semester (at a 4 year college), mid term report all A’s and 2 B+'s
Major: Communications
Letter of Recommendation: 1 recommendation from a communications professor at my current college.
Extra Curricular Activites At current college: D1 athlete
