University of Miami Fall 2018 Transfer

@transfer1999 Current consensus is next week, from the admissions emails some people have received. We’re all there alongside you bud, I’ve still got to sign a lease somewhere if I don’t get in which is a huuge headache. Would be ideal if it was actually rolling and we were notified the day a decision was made instead of in batches. Trust the process I guess, really hoping to be a 'Cane.

@gapyearapplicant Any truth to UMiami being a great undergrad for law students? Planning on going to law school, and I’ve heard that UM is actually a target for some of the best schools.

@bbm217 : getting into T14 Law Schools is more on you than the school you attend. If you make a 3.7+ GPA at Podunk State U and score high enough on the LSAT you would probably get into a top law school. UMiami won’t give you anything special in this regard. As long as you take the right professors, get a high GPA and score well on the LSAT you’ll do fine anywhere you go in terms of Law School Admissions. In fact, Law School admissions these days apparently look at your LSAT above all else and then your GPA. So your undergraduate institution is by and large irrelevant (just don’t go to a school with intense Grade Deflation).

Medical School admissions is a slightly different story, and some schools will give Universities known for intense STEM courses like WUSTL, HYPSM, and possibly Vanderbilt (there is apparently a certain degree of grade deflation there in STEM courses though gradeinflation.com reports a different story) a “bump” so a lower GPA is acceptable. But UMiami isn’t in those categories of schools known for very high-intensity rigor (though a very solid choice for life sciences).

I feel safe in the sense that I live in Miami and am currently going to FIU. I’d love, more than anything, to be accepted by UM. I’m sort of losing hope considering how long we’ve had to wait and how bad these past couple of weeks have treated me.
However I have all the credentials for acceptance so just fingers crossed.

On the other hand, reading some of your posts makes me more nervous for some of you coming from out of state! Finding out soon is crucial for you and I’m so sorry you’ve had to wait for so long :frowning:

Same honestly @danielaperr21 & i’m also trying to go to law school! I’m thinking about staying in UM for it as well @bbm217

@bbm217 It was my pleasure. I’m asking because financial aid works completely different for us at UM, and I just wanted to let them know how it works.

Is anyone else’s Canelink acting funky?

nope

so from what everyone has been hearing from their transfer evaluators people should start hearing this week. Any guesses to what days they are going to start releasing desicion notifications?

I don’t know but at this point I’m not sure if I’m gonna feel excited if I get accepted… just relieved.
Then milking and waiting so long to release the decisions was a really poorly thought out plan IMO

@Hockeyfan1 Better be tomorrow hahaha.

At this point I would just like to hear something even if it’s a rejection. I’m trying to see if I can fit in some summer classes but I need to find out if the credits will even be accepted or not. I don’t think I’ve ever been so excited for a Monday because I’m hoping we’ll hear tomorrow.

hahahaha ^ yes

@danielaperr21 So true

It’s officially another week!
Let’s hope for the best and that we all hear NOW. Because this is LONG OVERSUE

Overdue*

We can sue tho if we have to wait another week @danielaperr21 (;

@mishk90 Hahahaha you beat me to it.

It’d be extremely disappointing if we have to wait another week.
I’m at a crosshairs here because I have no idea of my internship or summer plans and this news is just DAUNTING.

I don’t understand how such a credible and selective university can be this irresponsible with decisions coming out so late. I’m almost positive that their class registration dates have already been posted and we’re just going to get the scraps :frowning:

@danielaperr21 Right?? They did the same thing in 2016, although they extended the deadline by a month due to a low amount of applicants. I mean, atleast reward the people who work their tails off to get their apps in as early as possible. I have a great feeling about this week though, fingers crossed!
