University of Miami Official Class of 2018 EA Results

Just talked to admissions-you cannot view your admission letter online until your admission letter has been mailed via snail mail. So I said “does that mean our admission letter still has not been sent”? Yes, she said. “What? so are they still in the process of mailing them out?” Yes, she said-but it could take up to a week to get all the letters out. “So, is this random-or should we be nervous?” Totally random she said-not by alphabetical, result or region- of course, I wouldn’t expect any other answer. VERY STRESSFUL way to roll out admissions decisions. There has to be a better way……

ACT: 29
SAT:1270
Weighted GPA: 4.881
Essay: Tugging on their heart strings the whole way through
Letter of Rec written by my AP Lit teacher. Been his student since freshman year, and the man sits on the college board as the leader of the team that writes the AP Lit test.
No legacy, but Hispanic female, as well as first generation college student.
Top 5% of my class
My ECs were weak, so I’m surprised I got in. Only things listed were member of NEHS for two years and did some English tutoring.
Got accepted to FIU with a 50% scholarship… Going to UM is pending on scholarships and financial aid, unfortunately.
Good luck to all!

Has anyone from Massachusetts gotten their acceptance package in the mail yet? Mine hasn’t arrived yet…

I have a friend that received an email saying that her daughter got the presidential merit scholarship but later revived a letter saying that she was deferred. Did anyone ever heard of being deferred after receiving a scholarship? Did it happen to anyone else?

@ddahwan - I’d have her contact admissions to clarify. Hopefully the email was correct and the letter is wrong… And I’ve been meaning to message you. It’s been a revolving door of houseguests here - my son and his girlfriend just left yesterday but will return on the weekend from a cruise. Heading for the movies at Sunset now but I’ll PM you on FB later, would love to get together if you have time!

PM me anytime. My friend’s daughter went to UM and was not able to get a clear answer. I told my friend to go in person and meet with someone from admissions with a copy of the email and get this story straight. I feel so bad because the older sister is a sophomore at UM and it is their top choice.

@jazz1005 I got mine in the mail today. I live in the Springfield area.

Decision: Accepted

Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I took two SAT courses to really bump up my score, and taking five APs probably earns some points. My essay didn’t seem run-of-the-mill, and I’m sure a little extra pigment in my skin didn’t hurt either. :stuck_out_tongue:
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Nowhere yet. I was deferred by Princeton, and I applied to six Ivies in total. We’ll see!

General Comments: Good luck to those who haven’t heard yet!

Ugh. Rejected :frowning:
Stats similar to many who were accepted. This sucks, I got rejected from my ED as well so I’m feeling really unsure of myself now…

@goldfishes
The college process is full of mysteries. It can come down to some mundane things. I too was not placed in my ED school, and it hurts. That said, I have accepted into some, heard some good news, and some more bad news. Odds are you’ll get in somewhere. For your sake, I hope that you applied to a number of schools with varying difficulty to get in.

@goldfishes - so sorry! please don’t take this to heart. I looked at some of your other posts and you’re in at several schools including Purdue right? That’s a great school - several top students from my daughter’s high school class are now Boilermakers. You can never tell what admissions is prioritizing in any particular year since things can fluctuate. I know schools are always balancing their geographic diversity and at the [][] that might impact kids from the NE since there are always so many applicants from the area. Also traditionally the [][] has highly valued class rank - evidenced by admitted student data as well as previously published merit award criteria. Since you had posted that your high school is very competitive that might have been another factor and nothing you had any control over. You will end up at a great school and though it is painful now I predict by the same time next year you will be happily ensconced at a wonderful school and won’t even remember those you didn’t get into.
