University of Miami or Nova Southeastern University

I’m 19 and currently in Orlando and I’m almost finished with my AA degree in college. Personally Im not very fond of Orlando because it’s quiet and there is not a lot to do so I’ve applied to University of Miami and Nova southeastern in Fort Lauderdale. Which one of these would be better in terms of the location? I’ve read many comments that say Miami is not very safe so that has given me doubt. What are your opinions on it? Also which University would you say has a better social life?

I’d definitely say UM. Although Miami’s not the safest of cities, the neighborhood UM is in is very nice and definitely safe enough. Although it does have its fair share of students that drive to school, I think the proportion there is much smaller than that of Nova Southeastern’s. It definitely has a social life it’s usually more off-campus from what I’ve heard. Nevertheless, there’s things to do on and off campus at UM; the neighborhood is fairly interesting. Between these schools, I’d prefer UM. The only issue is that UM is quite expensive so unless you get a good scholarship, it’ll cost quite a bit.

A UM degree will be worth much more in the marketplace than a Nova degree. UM is in Coral Gables, a pretty high end neighborhood.

Miami most definitely

Absolutely Miami. Trust me on this one…

u of miami is not in a bad area . but, if you commute to school from off campus nova would be better. live near las olas . the degrees are of equal value from either school. both have very well kept modern campuses. both are very good choices.

erm… no
Miami is internationally recognized.
most ppl will think of Villanova if asked about Nova SE.

That is a good 10 mile commute, so would absolutely need to have a car. Las Olas is not a cheap area to live in either. There are plenty of decent places to live near Nova, but the area is pretty much suburban and boring. You are much better off living near UM for a real collegiate experience. Also that Miami has division one sports and is off the metrorail line to take you into town if you so desire.

UM hands down

Thanks for the replies. Just got accepted to Nova  I guess I can use it as a backup if i don’t get into UM

Most definitely Miami, they have an array of great programs.
