I’ve asked about this at a few info sessions, and the common answers proffered by pretty much all of the AOs was a combination of staffing up and automation.
The most surprising part to me was the automated conversion of applicant GPAs to the schools’ preferred format. The AOs used to do these calculations by hand for each applicant (!) which sort of boggles my mind but I guess also makes sense. That burden is now offloaded to technology, which frees up 5-10 minutes per applicant. That doesn’t sound like much but it adds up.
just checked the portal- nothing’s changed. I think historically they’ve released at 3pm so I assumed if they were going to release it today, it’d probably be then. But I guess it’s actually next Friday.
There is an article with Rick Clark the admission head for Georgia Tech on this. His blogs are fantastic if anyone needs to know about this process and they apply to all schools. But yea. When you have 60,000 applications any help is great. Each app gets like a 10 minutes live review.
When I view the page source on the umich portal I also see the postpone button. Do you guys think it has anything to do with the actual decision given that they are releasing soon?
