That can be true, but in some schools/majors women can have the advantage (like engineering and business as mentioned above)…which I expect explains Michigan’s M/F acceptance rates.
Umich engineer school only about 20% of the mich population. That might explain why the split. Make the engineering school bigger
Easier said than done, for a number of reasons!
That said, UMich has grown its incoming classes over the last several years. For example, in 2013 it hit a record 28,000 undergrads, the then 5th consecutive record. Today that number is nearly 34,000.
They are attempting to expand and offer more beds. New residential quad adding 2,300 beds; more planned | The University Record
The last few year’s they have new buildings with new advanced classrooms.
But it’s the quality not quantity for a school like Michigan. Excellent facilities and faculty.
Something like 40 undergraduate majors in the top 10.
Plus Michigan classroom sizes are smaller then most actually expect
15:1 Professor :student. Ratio
7% classes over 100 students but 84% under 50 students. Large classes have break out groups of like 30 students.
Most of my sons engineering classes were like 30 students and got smaller as he became a junior etc. Most if not all the professors knew his first name.
Do you know if this quad is on track?
2026 for the ones by the stadium according to housing
My understanding is that these beds are meant more to (partially) back-fill the overwhelming need for housing rather than increase the undergraduate enrollment.
Actually it’s both. It will allow more freshman to live on central if they want and allow more housing as the numbers increase. The next large building project is on North that had been postponed since the pandemic.
Who else is keeping an eye on EA decision release dates? Traditionally, UMD and Michigan have announced decisions on the last Friday of January, usually the fourth Friday. But with five Fridays this year, it’s got me wondering if they’ll stick to the usual schedule or wait until the fifth Friday. To note, the “Terp Bus” is out today celebrating a few newly admitted students, which usually happens the weekend before decisions are released. I know each school has its own timeline, but here’s hoping the wait is almost over!
Praying both are next Friday! My kid applied to both schools!!
What is the terp bus- and what newly admitted students do you mean as they haven’t released decisions. Thanks
Def keeping an eye on EA decision release dates! I think there is similar speculation going on with UNC, which is expected 1/31; however, UNC typically announces an hour before NC State, and NC State has 1/30 as it’s “no later than” date for EA decisions. Speculation: NCS and UNC coming out 1/24.
Let’s hope that EA decisions expected on 1/31 come out instead on 1/24. You make a great point about there being five Fridays in 2025. I think most people have been focused on “the last Friday of the month”. Maybe we should have instead been thinking of decisions coming out on the fourth Friday of the month. We will soon find out!
Bank on January 31st at 3:00pm Eastern time. I would be shocked if they did something else.
It’s a bus that drives around the state giving like 3 kids their acceptances ahead of time, in most years decisions are released the next Friday
Fun! Thanks!
You’re probably right but it’s the hope of it coming out this coming week that gets us through.
Been there done that. Lol.
I tell students /parents to set your phone vibrate on… Keep your notification on here on… You will know when they are released
Also if this Monday things start to happen in the student portal… Then you might know. Certain tabs and such can change. People say some colors change… Usually their doing maintenence during that week to load the results… Or that’s what we think… Lol.
Yes, I’ve been through this before and anyone on this page will absolutely know! Other EA pages are shockingly “quiet”. Check out USC EA yesterday - less than 25 posts after EA decisions came out.
Web frenzy gonna start again. We were on Purdue this past week… the Website interpretation is crazy. I am less excited about UMich. We are OOS, the prIce tag just too high to make sense
