OOS, large public school outside of Boston
Biochemistry
GPA 3.76 with high rigor (A- and A with a couple of B+)
SAT 1530
No legacy or hooks
No financial aid need, which sadly helps with admissions since Michigan is need-aware for OOS
Accepted! And thrilled!
Our best guess is demonstrated interest was a factor, at least compared to other applicants from her school. She referenced her visit to campus in her Why Michigan essay and emailed the Admissions Officer a genuine question about a unique program.
Many, many thanks to @Knowsstuff and all of you who offered wisdom and humor through this process! Go Blue!
The website says they accept scores self-reported in the application or, in the portal “if scores become available after an application has already been submitted.” Common App asks for the highest section scores, essentially a superscore.
Also:
Does U-M superscore?
We will use your highest superscore, which means that we will consider the best sub-scores reported across multiple test dates. You may submit your scores as a superscore, but if you wish to have us calculate the superscore for you instead, you may submit all of your test scores. For those Postponed /deferred, this is a very normal process when there’s like 64,000 EA Applications (estimate).
What does it mean and what should you do?
First off, have some dinner and just relax. Breathe…Read the letter you got for your next steps.
Some will do nothing and still get accepted.
If it states that it wants your midterm grades or something else then follow through.
It usually gives you an option to write a letter of continued interest (Loci).
Some don’t and get in and some do and don’t get in.
But… When I am asked to me it’s not an option. This is a great way to show interest. Many paid college advisors also suggest to write the letter.
But it’s your choice to do so or not.
If it doesn’t ask for another recommendation then don’t send one. Just follow the instructions in the letter.
Also start in the next few weeks looking closely at your other options also.
Also remember not everyone accepted will matriculate to Michigan for various reasons.
Just a bump in the road. Not the end of the road.
There is also a RD thread. Yes. You are no longer EA. Everyone now is RD. For Ross and CS your paths are slightly different and they were posted upthread or you can look it up also.

If you look up thread there is a postponed link. Read that from the Michigan website. You should have some letter that will tell you what to do. I think you have till March 1st but honestly. Use the weekend to recoup and try to get one done in the next two weeks. Good luck.
