University of Michigan Ann Arbor Early Action Fall 2025

Personally, I don’t get the “distrust.” UMich gets 100,000 +/- freshman apps and between readers and computer algorithms, UMich pares that number down to 15,000-16,000 acceptances in order to get an enrolled class of approx. 7,000 freshmen.

We live in a time when people distrust institutions and non-transparency…. And our leaders are encouraging this… Add to this the highly competitive environment for limited seats… What more is there to say?

What type of distrust are you talking about? That your student’s app didn’t get a fair read? That a student with lower academic stats got your student’s ‘spot’? That the process isn’t transparent so you can’t understand or criticize the underlying details?

Like I said above, it’s understandable some would be uncomfortable with the lack of transparency in college admissions. And although there are limited seats in highly rejective schools, there aren’t limited college seats in the grand scheme of things.

Not sure why you are challenging me, we both seem to believe that non-transparency breeds distrust.

If you want to categorize/analyze the mistrust, have at it yourself.

I have already indicated that i am just pointing out an apparent theme.

We bought our lottery ticket and will stick it out to the bitter end. If my child doesn’t make the cut, so be it. We did what we had control over.

And, yes, there are plenty of seats in over 4,000 US colleges/universities… that may be your point, but it’s not mine.

I think we can move on from this theme please. It is in all colleges out there. Let’s focus on admission at Michigan and questions to those that were accepted. There is another thread for those applying RD or were deferred and are now RD.

Thx. The Management

I hear ya… i’m sticking around for people next year to have EA results, deferred or not, in the same place. :slightly_smiling_face:

Sorry, what is “2/1” RD pool please?

Regular Decision applications for the 2025-2026 admissions cycle that were due by February 1, 2025.

My kid was accepted to SMTD! @sushirito – it’s funny to see you here. My S21 applied to UMich (and some other overlapping schools) for engineering and ended up at SLO . I remember seeing you on boards 4 years ago.

Yes, congrats on the SMTD admission. That’s a tough admission for sure! The entire SMTD school only has 850 +/- students.

I saw someone mention somewhere a Facebook page for parents. Is that something admitted students’ parents can join? I found it super helpful in assessing options when my older son went through this.

Yes. There are some official and unofficial one’s. I never joined them myself

Penn bringing back the SAT for class of 2026. Will U Michigan follow?

Well, UMich hasn’t yet been prompted by any of the schools in this thread. Not sure why Penn in particular would push them over the top:

That said, it won’t surprise me if sooner or later they go back to test-required. Not bc of Penn though

Because of the tremendous demand… which won’t resolve the root cause.

All the schools including Michigan which have been saying they are Test Optional until a certain admissions cycle, will return to test required starting next cycle.
Schools like UCs, UW Seattle will remain test blind forever.
My guess is as more selective schools get back to being Test Required, rest will double down on their Test Optional messaging and allure.

For sure, there are many, many schools that don’t have the demand/supply monopolies that these “top” schools have.

Our email junk boxes are filled with hundreds of schools using every sort of marketing gimmick to generate demand.

The time for any schools to return to test required for the 25-26 admissions cycle is rapidly closing. While a number have done so, I think more will wait it out one more year.

They should, Covid closures had a real impact, more so on the kids prepping and just entering high school, than those in it at the time.
