Some schools are also sensitive to the fact that on the West Coast many students are still having problems finding local test sites.
Trying to find info on the 40 LSA majors that are ranked in the top 10. I see this in the marketing flyers but can’t seem to find the list online anywhere. Does anyone have insight on where to find this?
This is old and don’t have time now but here is one thing. When my son was here his engineering major was #2, his two minors were #3 and #7. It’s a real thing. It used to be on the website somewhere.
Yes I found that but it’s from 2017 and I was hoping for a more current list (even though 2017 doesn’t feel that long ago)
This is the graduate one with 110 majors ranked in the top ten. Have to keep googling for undergrad… Lol.
Thank you!
So my absolute favorite place on Michigan campus /in Ann Arbor.
Great place for students to just get away and enjoy nature. Walking distance on Central campus. It’s amazing this is here.

Kind of a silly question here - We were at the PSU admitted students day yesterday and they started to get a decent amount of snow during the day. We were super impressed by the way they cleared the sidewalks. They used some kind of rotary broom on a small vehicle and it was so effective and much faster than a push snow blower (all we ever see where we live in VA). I would assume Michigan also uses something similar, but we were curious if Michigan also responds so quickly to accumulating snow. It’s not a deal breaker, but something that impressed my not-from-the-north DC.
@DroidsLooking do you know how the sidewalks are there…? The times I have been on campus in the winter everything is taken care of well.
Yes agreed. Can’t speak to how fast/“on it” they are - I will ask the droids. But, I’d guess pretty attentive.
Edit: Droid1 reports that the school and town are pretty attentive, and in fact a friend’s house once “got in trouble” for not shoveling their sidewalk quickly enough.
D always thought Ann Arbor is very attentive to the streets and sidewalks in the winter near or around campus. But snow removal out in the neighborhoods tends to be more spotty.
Thanks for snow removal intel. DC’s (current) 2 favorite schools are in opposite climates, so we want to be realistic about the differences. Hopefully the decision will become easier after Campus Day!
So, first NIH funding attack, now DEI… if paying for college is a concern, better stay on top of federal spending cut news.
I’m watching impact of what’s going on at US Dept of Education, too. Among other things, they run/ran FAFSA.
Looks like with all the chaos/uncertainty, we’ll be holding out until right around May 1 to make our decision.
Thx for the information and it affects research funds at all schools. But, I don’t want this to get Political since it is affecting all schools.
If more discussion on this make a separate thread but one might already exist. It’s an important topic but this is the EA thread. Thx
Not political, totally financial… and the effects will certainly apply to all Michigan EA admits.
Personally, I would like to know the impact on Michigan’s COA, research & internship opportunities, and student services. I would appreciate any insights from community members as things progress.
If this is allowed.
A thread was started this morning in the Political Forum about funding cuts: https://talk.collegeconfidential.com/t/impact-on-universities-cuts-in-research-funding-and-federal-grants/3683610/
For the ECI, should someone include something new they found interesting about UMich? If they discovered a new program in their field of interest, should they add that to their ECI? Or should they only include academic and extracurricular updates in the ECI?
My son was told to write about NEW updates (they don’t want to reread what was written on his original application). For example, after Nov 1st, he was named Captain of his JV hockey team, raised over $6000 for a Movember campaign, and secured a summer job, which was a promotion from last summer. He then briefly mentioned why he could see himself at UMich and why he feels like he will be successful at the school.
Thank you so much! I appreciate your help!
