Is there any chance waitlisted candidates can hear BEFORE May 1st? If not what is the earliest they can hear?
No. May 1 is the deadline for accepted students to make their choice. The university will not know if there are available spots until after the RSVP date.
Has anyone searched old threads for a sense of when UMich starts admitting from the waitlist and whether they do so in “waves” at all? I know it will be “after May 1” and that some will be as late as early-mid July, but I wonder if there’s a prior record of a lot of the action happening in early May?
I read on a Vanderbilt thread that they admitted lots of folks from the waitlist last year on May 2, 4, and 8, or something like that–I wonder if that will be the case for U-M. I’m sure it depends on a lot of factors–just curious what the old CC threads suggest about the timeline.
My buddy heard a week or two after the May 1 deadline. When he was waitlisted.

@Knowsstuff I’ll be attending Cornell, but it’s arts and science. I really wanted engineering and I really do love Michigan. However, due to various reasons I picked Cornell. Financial aid is one of the reasons.
Nice congrats. Can you transfer to engineering at Cornell?
@Knowsstuff I’m hoping to but I don’t know how difficult it will be. Ironic thing is Cornell is the only school that I didn’t apply engineering following my counselor’s advice. I lacked some good engineering ECs.
