University of Michigan Class of 2028 Official RD Thread

Yes, my son has gotten his housing assignment too, and we’ve scheduled move-in. Thank you for your update!

How’d move-in go for you? We had two quite different experiences. One is in North Campus, which was totally casual. We popped in early to see if they’d let us move in early and yup, no problem whatsoever. Plenty of parking, plenty of people to help, etc.

OTOH, moving the other into SQuad was like a military operation. Multiple checkpoints manned by security, beyond which you could not drive if it was not your appointed time. Also got a text from an officer when our 1-hour parking slot was up. So funny.

Anyway so far so good.

My son is in a Hill dorm (Central Campus) and we didn’t move in until Friday morning. It was super smooth and easy - we pulled right up and kids immediately started unpacking our car. The helpers said that earlier in the week people had to wait in a 45 minute line before they could unload. The dorm seems really nice, but there wasn’t much programming to help introduce the first years to each other. Maybe we missed it? As you say, so far so good.

I agree that “get to know you” programming is somewhat lacking. We were expecting RAs to gather everyone in groups. But nothing of that sort.

We too have found the communication about other things scattered. Like it’s out there but you have to look for it. We found info on everything from “a bunch of signs in random places in dorm hallways and stairs” to “buried in long emails” to various account IG posts. I sorta get it - it’s an enormous school, so have a single centralized listing of everything probably isn’t practical and may not make a lot of sense.

But, for new students I agree they could probably do a somewhat better idea of making sure that there are small group break-outs, and that the big stuff gets conveyed to everyone. I mean our kids made it to Festifall, convocation, the M Block photo, and the football rally last night. So that’s something.

My daughter is applying next fall and I was wondering if you had any tips etc?

You may get more traction in the 2025 thread:

Ask on the EA thread or make a separate one. This is an old thread and the answers can help others also. I am more then happy to share some ideas.

Question for class of 2028 RD applicants who were not EA-deferrals: did you have the option to submit a LOCI, did you do so, and what was your admission result?

Hi! My son was invited to apply to SMI program after getting Waitlisted at UofM. Can you share what the application process is like and when admissions notifications are sent? How did the program work out for your son?? Any info you can share is greatly appreciated!!

I’d try the '29 thread as it’s more active right now!
