University of Michigan Deferral Thread EA 2019

ACT 31 vs 33 is 97 and 99th percentile. The average EA accepted students had was a 30, based on what they told us at campus day.

@onceuponamom. If the average EA was really a 30 that would mean that the average EA acceptance is under the average admission stats for last year. On Michigan’s admission website it says average ACT for 2014 entering class was 30-33, making a 30 in the 25th percentile. That would appear to mean that Michigan indeed deferred some of its highest scoring applicants and unless they plan to lower their entering class average ACT by quite a but it will those high scoring applicants will likely be the ones to be admitted.

All I know is what they presented on the big screen in front of us. Average gpa was 3.9, ACT 30.

Perhaps it is the difference between admitted students and enrolled students?

@rjkofnovi‌. Admitted student averages are generally higher than attending student averages. This would again mean that those who think that higher scoring students were disproportionately deferred may be correct. And just to be clear, my own kid was admitted. My interest is in the issue in general and fir done volunteer college counseling work I do.

A girl in my area was admitted today after being deferred from the art school

I agree maya54, that 30 just doesn’t seem right for EA.

If the ACT average has been 30 - then the admissions office has lost its mind - I hope like crazy we are not dependent on the ability of the regional counselor, we could be in trouble if that is the case

When is the next wave of acceptances expected? Will it be the deferred applicants? Hate to spend all spring break looking at colleges that my D is accepted at, when all we want is Michigan! Very costly and time consuming!

Apparently no one knows… Some people are even predicting April, which is ridiculous in my opinion… @calspeed‌, what do you think of Michigan’s policy on stretching the wait time for deferred applicants?

April is soo late; plans need to be made. This effects the entire families summer. What else can I say?

Well, you can also say that they need to improve their policy, but alright…

The tumblr page says “there is always hope” for decisions tomorrow. But I’m still not getting my hopes up, at this point I don’t even mind waiting till April

If the results are released tomorrow, will we find out around 1AM like the last wave?

Fingers crossed!!

If decisions were to be released tomorrow, would they be released early in the morning?

No idea?

@America2468 @calspeed nope, they would be released around 3:00

I’m so anxious guys!

WA usually gets updated first before email at midnight.

@fdolakstart‌ I’m nervous too! I hope they’re released tomorrow. This wait is killing me. Just out of curiosity do you know for certain that the release would be around 3:00 PM or is it more of a guess based off of prior years?
