@deferredboy @benh10…seriously? For real? You 2 birds applied to Ohio State? And you have the ■■■■■■■ to admit that HERE? I question if you have Maise and Blue running through your veins lads!

@jcooch haha no i’ve always wanted to go to Michigan for a very long time now but my uncle went their so i was guilted into it almost. And then my other cousin is an alumni of Michigan so they are eager to see which one i choose! But Michigan is literally my dream college.

@rtv2014 I’m not sure word for word what she said, but it was made clear to me that they weren’t accepting anything to add to applications. Maybe because I called them Monday and we could hear Friday? But who knows haha. I’m sure they have an idea about the remaining applicant’s decision if they haven’t been made and sent out, they are probably waiting to see who drops and picks another school so spots open up. They are only allowed to take so many students from different areas around the state, as well as other states.

Yeah I applied to osu because they give good merit scholarships and they have a better engoneering program than state but yeah michigan has always been my number 1

@benh10 agreed

But again, the only people who truly know are the people who work at undergraduate admissions. There have been lots of rumors and none of us really know what’s going on for sure…it’s a mystery. We will find out soon enough, just try to stay positive. Good luck to everybody.

@Deferredboy- “why not michigan then”

Dont you think UMich is more competitive than the ones you mentioned??

But I think your stats are still good.

@ashleymartin i always knew UMich was very competitive but UIUC and Georgia Tech’s engineering programs are just as highly ranked and i did not believe i would stand a chance but i got in. That’s all i am saying!

who wants to hear another wild guess theory that may or may not be true!!?? I think that everyone who hasn’t heard back is very much qualified for Michigan. It’s just a matter of spots. Ivy league decisions come out soon, so the kids who got into michigan as a safety will hopefully get into their Ivies, opening up a spot for kids like us. Just another theory. Take it or leave it

I don’t think it is necessarily to do with quality as an applicant. I think it has more to do with region. No one from my town or the surrounding towns in my state has heard anything since December, so I’m pretty sure that it is regional. Just over the border in NY, people heard, but no one here. As they said, the are releasing rejections and acceptances as they go along and I know there are a ton of RD/deferred kids who are super qualified but have not heard back from my area. With that in mind, I’m hoping for Friday, but I’ll take it when it comes!

@maci12 well yeah quality of applicant combined with region. A kid from my school who got into Michigan committed to WashU then a few days later one of the deferred kids in my class got their acceptance to michigan

when i was on the phone with admissions on monday she said there are times when a many people from the same region who get it at the same time, but that isnt always/mostly true all the time, and its not the “rule” they follow!!

only time can alleviate our anxiety!! we will know soon

Ivies will release results tomorrow. Hoping a bunch of them were also accepted to UMich so a lot of spots can be released. I know, wishful thinking…

I hope we all check back in as we find out…good or bad.

There are quite a few kids from my school that I know aren’t going to attend Umich, and I’m wondering if this helps my chance of admittance. A better question to ask is do they refill the number of spots in a specific school or area to maintain a close to stable admittance number (refill those who were accepted and wont attend)?

Riddle me this…so let’s say that X amount of acceptances also get word from their Ivy schools. And if they are accepted, it does not mean they will notify Michigan that they are not attending. I think a majority will not contact UM admissions again and by not contacting them, letting UM dangle like a wind chime. Ergo the number of acceptances annually versus the number of actual attendees. No way they all were considerate and called UM and told them they got a better deal elsewhere. So…if it is a theory of Ivy lets their decisions out and kids bail and notify UM of their intentions…I just don’t think so…just my WAG.

The bigger occurrence is that UM knows that a certain % will be admitted and bail. It is already built in. They play a statistical game of chicken. Admitting say 15,000 but expecting only 7,500 to actually attend. UM in no way can wait to verify all admittances…it is a game of probability that they play. I chose those numbers merely as reference and not hard facts. I think we all get the point.

Thanks @JCooch and yes I was basing my question off the some kids that do reply to Umich like they should. Sorry I wasn’t clear enough.

I want to be one of the 15,000 or so that can use my freedom of choice! Son of a gun!
