University of Michigan - Deferral Thread

@michiganluvr I don’t think them saying they wont review until february is too positive. mine has no indication of time for review and says they’re impressed so I’m not sure really what the difference is.

in my letter it says to send “first semester or trimester grades when available”, but my school grades in quarters. Should I just send quarters as they’re released?

I got deferred last year (2012) in December. I sent in my first trimester grades (which were all A’s) and emailed my UM counselor expressing my interest in Michigan had not changed and asking general questions like had my new grades been received and updated to my file.

I was later accepted March 1st as well as a couple other people from my school/other schools. This day was only deferral acceptances. The rest of the deferred pool as well as RD admissions heard back on March 29th and many of them were wait listed, if not all(from the deferred bunch).

And if it makes a difference I received the “good” deferral letter which is almost the exact same as this year’s good letter.

I’m really confused/scared/angry right now…U of M was my safety school and I got deferred…like idk what to say…
2300 SAT
3.8 UW
10 APs
Varsity Fencing captain, 300+ hrs of community service, debate teams, auditioned choir ensembles, etc. (lots of ECs)
I liked my essays, can’t really self-judge…

I just don’t understand what’s happening right now…three other kids got in from my school and they all have worse stats than me T.T i swear i’m not going to get into college

@bleachtsubasa same here, everyone I know got in at my school with lesser stats than me. It doesn’t make much sense…

^ this. That’s my thought exactly. It’s odd that on last year’s thread some deferred applicants heard positive news a few weeks later, and in one case 6 days later. Nothing new was presumedly added to their application.

I got the “good” one. 3.9 UW GPA, 32 ACT, 2170 SAT, applied to LSA

Just thought I’d out my info on the thread.

White Male
GPA UW 3.74
GPA W 4.44
SAT 2100 Math:750 Reading:720 Writing:630
Born in Russia and immigrated when I was 5. Duel Citizenship.
Got the “bad” letter.
Applied to College of Engineering
My extracurriculars were ok and my essays were ok

Yeah I really don’t get how people heard back so quickly after being deferred? Any current Wolverines want to chime in?

Also how do we find who our UM COUNSELOR is

I was deferred from LSA with the following stats:
4.0 UW 4.28W
33 ACT
6 APs
Many ECs
Good not great essays, reviewed by multiple teachers

I got the “good” letter

I was extremely let down and surprised, I thought I would have gotten in.

Just curious, on which date did you guys submit your application? I did so on the last day possible.

October 31st.

November 1 and I got in

oct 28 and deferred with a 4 UW, legacy, varsity sports, service…still my first choice and will simply wait.

Deferred. Michigan was my top choice and if ED was possible I would have done that. My question is if you apply EA and get deferred, are your chances higher or lower to get in for RD. I have heard both ways saying they accept only the cream of the crop in EA, therefore it’s not necessarily the end of the road. I have also heard your chances of getting in EA are much higher then RD.
My stats include:
3.8gpa
710M 570R 540W
750 Math 2 subject test
3 years varsity on state qualifying soccer team along with 3 years varsity basketball.
NHS+math honors society+working all through high school and plenty of volunteer work.
My essays were excellent. I actually had the opportunity to have an individual meeting with the head of student affairs and was given a personal tour. I spent months on the essays and was more then satisfied with the results.

Just wanted to get your guys thoughts.

Anyone get into the nursing school EA? My D had 30 ACT, 3.75 GPA with lots of APs, attended UM math and science summer camps, NHS, and volunteers at local hosp., in state, legacy. She was chanced at 75%, kind of surprised she was deferred and wondering if this was common with the school of nursing?

I submitted mine October 23rd, but all of my materials were in by October 28th. I wonder if our deferrals have to do with the time we sent them in?
And now I’m super scared because I received a C+ in Honors Physics this semester. I have all A’s in all my other classes, but I’m scared that one C will cause me to be rejected. If it makes a difference I have the “good” deferral letter. Can I get some insight?

I hate to be that guy, but since we all know that a lot of our stats are well above average, maybe this deferral is actually just a deferral. I think that people on this site have better stats than the average person, so if anyone’s going to be accepted after being deferred, it will probably be some of us.

If I send in my first trimester transcripts on Monday should I still expect to hear back in April? Or could I hear back sooner? April is just so far away, I’m really bumming.

@qwerty Apparently you can receive notice any time between now and early April. I read from last year’s thread that people received an acceptance very shortly after sending in their new grades (mid january).

Chin up folks, only 130 people have reported their acceptance on this forum…there are and will be many more than 130 acceptances before all is said and done - probably 15,000 of them to yield a class of 5-6,000.
